Ethical Issues in the Arts
PERS 2150
Review of case studies in areas of the Arts involving censorship and other ethical issues.
A survey of controversies in American visual arts in the 19th and 20th centuries. This course examines the changing roles and expectations of art in our democracy, and how the arts bring societal controversies into focus. Cases examined in this course include public monuments, government funding of art, censored art, political art, abstract art, nudity, protest art.
