Lamination – Supply costs $.70 plus tax per linear foot. Once the machine is powered on and warmed up, determine the speed setting required for the papers to be laminated. Thicker paper types should be laminated more slowly than thin paper. For standard paper, speed 4 is a good setting. Feed the paper into the machine, leaving enough space between papers (about an inch) to allow the laminates to adhere. Between linear rows, again allow at least an inch of space before feeding the next set of papers through. When completed, cut the laminated papers from the machine with the blade on the back of the machine. Measure the length of laminate used. Generally, if only a few pages need to be processed, the employee will do the task. However, if the amount to be processed is substantial, the employee should show the customer how to do the process.
Spiral Binding – $.25 plus tax for binding, optional clear cover additional $.25 plus tax. The spiral binding consists of two processes, punching holes in the materials and then binding them. For standard 8.5 x 11 inch papers, the machine is generally already configured properly. Depending upon the thickness of the papers to be bound, margin settings may need to be reconfigured, but this is not usually necessary. Gather a fair number of pages (usually no more than about 20-25 at a time) and neatly place them into the hole punch. Depress the punch lever, remove the papers, and repeat the process until ready to bind the papers. If a clear cover is being added to the binding, it must also be punched. Before binding, select a binder of appropriate diameter for the papers. This is the most important step in the process, as having the wrong size would make the binding either non-functional or unattractive. Place the binder with the ‘teeth’ facing outward in the combing mechanism, depress the lever to displace the binder teeth, and fit the papers into the binder teeth. Normally, a back cover will be appended to the papers for the customer. Color selections for both the back cover and binder are available.
Color Printing – $.25 with no tax (only payable via patron's VSU One Card) for printouts using the Xerox multifunctional printer at standard quality (8.5x11 inch printouts) and $1.00 for tabloid sized prints (11x17). There are also several types of additional print media that can be purchased at an additional charge from cash or check only from the equipment circulation counter. Printing procedures are standard, accessible through program menus from PowerPoint, Word, etc. In most cases, images will be imported into PowerPoint to be printed, as the program allows easy manipulation of image size and placement. To import images into PowerPoint, in the menus select Insert | Picture | From File. Be sure to select the correct printer and settings when prompted in the print process. If using photo paper, be sure to enter the paper type in the Print Properties menu. Again prints can only be paid for with a VSU One Card or departmental account. Supplies like transparencies, cardstock and gloss paper are to be paid separately via cash or check.
Color Transparencies – $.25 plus tax. The procedure is mostly the same as with regular color prints, except that attention must be paid to how the transparency paper is fed into the printer. In the printer options screen, the bypass tray must be selected. When loading the transparency sheets into the bypass tray, ensure the configuration for the tray is set to transparency on the printer's menu. Keep note that this only includes the price of the transparency. To print on the transparency you will go by the notes next to Color Printing.
Fax Services – Free Service for VSU Students, Staff, and Faculty while using the NMC Xerox Printer. Faxing is not available for those who are not a current VSU student, staff, or faculty member, as it is required to have your VSU ID to start the fax process. The procedure is mostly the same as scanning to email and can be completed by a patron with assistance by an NMC staff member if needed. We will not be able to do international faxing. You can estimate roughly 1 minute per page that is faxed to be sent off. To send a fax to a VSU campus office, you will need to enter only the on-campus extension. To send a fax to a site with a local area code of 229, simply dial 9 and the 7 digit number. If you are attempting to send a fax to a site outside of the Valdosta area code, then dial 91, the three-digit area code, and the 7 digit number for the fax line. A confirmation page can be generated using the touchscreen interface if you choose. Please be sure to use our fax number in the field titled from. Our fax line is 229-219-1362. If an item is faxed to us and not picked up by the patron receiving the fax, then it will be shredded and tossed out. We will only hold onto fax items for no more than 1-business day. It would be best to be at the NMC while waiting for your fax to come through if receiving a fax.
Posters – 22x34 inch posters are $8.90 plus tax, including lamination. Additionally, posters with widths of up to 40 inches can be printed on our large format printers. Prices vary based on the dimensions of the poster - $.20 per inch for the 24-inch width paper and $.35 per inch for the 42-inch width. For lamination costs and procedures refer to Lamination at the top of this page.
