SHREK the Musical BOOK & LYRICS BY DAVID LINDSAY-ABAIRE MUSIC BY JEANINE TESORI Originally produced on Broadway by DreamWorks Theatricals and Neal Street Productions Based on the 2001 Oscar-winning animated film by DreamWorks, Shrek The Musical is coming to Sawyer stage as Peach State Summer Theatre’s opening show for the 2017 season. Shrek tells the story of a flatulent ogre who finds himself on a life-changing journey alongside a wisecracking Donkey and a feisty Princess who resists her rescue. Throw in a short-tempered bad guy and over a dozen fairy tale citizens, and you’ve got the kind of mess that calls for a real hero. Luckily, there’s one on hand. His name is Shrek. Featuring music by Jeanine Tesori and book and lyrics by David Lindsay-Abaire, both the DreamWorks film and stage versions of Shrek are sourced from William Steig's 1990 book Shrek!. After a trial run in Seattle, the original Broadway production opened in December 2008, and closed after a run of over 12 months. With original songs such as “Big Bright Beautiful World,” and the Neil Diamond sensation, “I’m a Believer,” this show is sure to entertain all of our patrons, young and old.
