Splash Page

“An initial web page used to capture the user's attention for a short time as a promotion or lead-in to the site home page or to tell the user what kind of browser and other software they need to view the site.” 1

To have the splash page automatically move to the home page after a specified delay, include the HTML tag in the splash page as in this example with a 5-second delay:

For Front Page, click on <html>, which is between <normal> and <preview> and put the above line under <head> and above all other META statements.

Remember to change the initial index page to home.htm and name the splash page “index.htm”.

Requirements:

·         A background graphic. A VSU logo.

·         The words “Welcome to My (or your name’s) Electronic Portfolio”, using WordArt, or similar.

·         Time: 10 sec duration. Your homepage should show right after that.

·         Shorten the time to 5 sec and after it checks out to be OK, switch to 10 sec.

·         One to two sentences of sayings, more or less, 20 words.

·         Topic: you are free to choose. It should adhere to VSU regulations.

·         Suggestions: your life philosophy, your encouragement, your gift, your feeling, your…

·         If nothing else, use the space to express your appreciation to family, friends, etc.

·         Extra: 10 sec of music.

·         Extra: randomize the sentence. That is, the saying will change automatically, from visit to visit.  

Using Table: Items in Nature

 

*     Select an item in nature; find 4 non-copyrighted photos from the internet.

*     Suggestion: clouds, birds, flowers, wind, fire, lightning, mountains…

*     Find a “texture” photo from the internet to be used as background of Table 1.

*     Post them on FrontPage and include a poetic sentence for each photo.

*     Give a title for the webpage. The title must include the word of the item in nature that you have selected.

 

Steps:

*     Format background of the webpage in a solid color.

*     Insert a one-cell table (Table 1).

*     Format background of Table 1 by inserting the “texture” photo.

*     Center Table 1, both top and bottom, left and right.

*     Insert Table 2 into Table 1.

*     The size of Table 2 should be 2 columns by 3 rows.

*     Format background of Table 2 in a different solid color.

*     Merge the 2 cells on the top row; enter the title of the webpage there.

*     Insert a one-cell table into each of the remaining 4 cells of Table 2.

*     Insert a photo into each of the one-cell table.

*     Make the size of each photo to be 2 inches by 3 inches.

*     Under each photo, write a short phrase.

*     Click on each photo, click “Resample” on Picture Toolbar.

*     Save and post to your site as U3A2
