Who Am I?

My name is Takara N. Dudley.  I am a fourth year student at Valdosta State University.  My major is Special Education Interrelated with Early Childhood Education.  My birthday is October 29th, so I have been 21 for almost three whole months.  I am the oldest of two children.  I have a younger brother who is in his second year of college.  I have two loving parents who reside in Snellville, GA.  I have just recently become a member of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Incorporated by way of the Captivating Alpha Theta Chapter here at Valdosta State.  I am a member of Premiere Fashion Models, Incorporated, and a member of Big Brothers and Big Sisters of South Georgia.  I also work part-time at the Mildred Hunter Community Center where I am the facility receptionist and assistant youth modeling instructor.   In my spare time I enjoy reading a good book, listening to music, writing poetry, or spending time with my close friends.

I wanted to become a teacher to make a difference. I mean who doesn't?  I believe that it only takes one caring, loving, determined person to help positively shape the lives of school aged children.  But I don't want to just teach.  I want to do so much more.  My ultimate goal in life is to own a franchise of private schools.  I want to bring high-quality education, updated facilities, and dedicated and ambitious individuals like myself to the inner cities of Georgia.  I believe that the inner city children need just as much, if not more, of an advantage to get ahead in life as a child who is born with such luxuries.  A lot of times these children are overlooked and automatically labeled as failures when all they need is a chance.  I want to be the one to give them that extra step and push that they need to get past their present circumstances.

With that said, the misguided, misunderstood, unmotivated, and undetermined children who seem to have no hope are who inspire me to become not only a teacher but a path maker.  I believe that if given an opportunity all children, no matter their race, socioeconomic background, or gender can succeed.  Every one of them are born someone destined for great things, they just need the right support team to help push them into their destiny.
