- Municipal Drinking Water Treatment
Multimillion-dollar facilities in cities around the world are increasing in number. Ozone may be used as a disinfectant or to reduce chemical contaminants. The city of Valdosta currently treats its water with ozone and the city of Nice; (France) has been ozonizing water for over 100 years.
- Industrial Wastewater Treatment
Ozone generating facilities that reduce the color or toxicity of a factory's effluent are also increasing in number. This is an international market.
- Laundries
Commercial laundries may use ozone in the cleansing of clothes.
- Aquariums
Large aquariums use ozone to reduce some chemical pollutants, to disinfect, and to subsequently increase oxygen levels.
- Paper Mills-Color Reduction
Paper mills that do not bleach paper still need to treat millions of gallons per day to reduce "color" which is a function of the organic content of the solution. Ozonating also increases the oxygen level. It can also be used to
reduce or eliminate toxic waste's such as dioxins or to bleach paper
in place of EC (elemental chlorine) or reduce chlorine oxide compounds in
other bleaching processes.
- Swimming Pools
Large pools can use ozone, in place of chlorine, to treat the water.
Ozone reacts quicker than chlorine (see below) and doesn't leave the residual component.
- Industrial
Ozone is used in chemical reactions to break carbon-carbon double bonds in the synthesis of industrially important compounds.
- Education
A small ozone system can be used in chemistry, biology, engineering teaching labs through the U.S.. Ozone is an attractive molecule because of its role in the ozone hole and in pollution. Its widespread commercial applications lend themselves to a variety of introductory, intermediate and advanced labs. Tens of thousands of future engineers, scientists, Doctors, technicians, etc., take these science labs every year.

High purity ozone is used in the synthesis of chips and other electronics components.
- Agriculture and Food Processing
The ability of ozone to kill microorganisms (bacteria, virus, etc.) has led to some new applications in food preservation and processing.
Many more specific applications can be found. Ozone can be applied to solid, liquid or gas phase applications. The largest market will be in liquid or aqueous phase applications for treating water. These applications will continue to grow as the population of the world increases and water becomes more precious. If one were to break these applications into two general areas for water purification: disinfection, chemical reduction.
