All about me...
My name is Tamara Young, but everyone calls me Tammy.  I have been married to a wonderful man for eleven years and have two rambunctious boys. We are very family-oriented. We attend church together at Astoria Baptist Church in Waycross, Georgia. My husband and I teach the 4-6 grade Sunday School class and I teach 1-6 grade on Wednesday nights. I like to go shopping when I have spare time. I enjoying starting on next year's Christmas presents in January. In doing this, I can enjoy the real reason for celebrating Christmas - Jesus's Birth. I also love taking photographs of anything I see. When I have the time, I take photographs at weddings.

We try to take our children everywhere we go, this includes Waycross Motor Speedway (and any other track my husband can convince me to go to). This has become a Saturday night ritual for our family because my husband has been racing for five years. He started out in the Stock class but moved up to Super Street last year. It must have been a good change because he was third in points. Both of our boys are going to be race car drivers when they grow up and believe they will be better than their daddy!

I am a junior at Valdosta State University but attend classes on the Waycross College Campus. I like the Early Education/Special Education Interrelated program that I am in. I have met many interesting people through the program and I am excited about having my Master's degree in May 2008 and being able to teach in the fall.

Why teach...

For as long as I can remember, I have wanted to teach. I enjoy helping other people and I want to make a difference in someone's life. Teaching is an important job and is very rewarding. It takes a lot of patience and understanding. In my opinion, children want to learn. Learning feels good to them. Because it is something that we do on a daily basis, we need to enjoy it.

My inspiration...

There has been many people that inspired me to become a teacher. I'm sure I had my share of good and bad teachers in my life,  but none of them really stand out. As a parent, I volunteered at my oldest son's school. There were many students as well as teachers that changed my life.

Diane Smith and Dana Connor teach Kindergarten at Memorial Drive Elementary School. They have an open door policy and are great role models. They always have a smile and nice word for everyone that enters their classroom. I volunteered a lot in their classroom and they always seemed to involve me in the things that teachers do. This helped me decide on pursuing my dream of becoming a teacher.

I love to see my nephew try new things and can see the potential to succeed in his eyes; however, his body doesn't want to cooperate.
You see, my nephew has Asperger Syndrome. He has trouble with everyday tasks that we take for granted. There is a little girl that I know that saw her father shoot and kill her mother when she way very young. She has struggled with many things in her short little life. Seeing clowns or the Easter bunny is always a favorite among children; however, it is terrifying to her. When she was in kindergarten, she just hid behind her teacher and cried when things like this were going on around her. She slowly came out of her shell and a few years later, she stopped me in the hall one day to tell me that she didn't cry when the clowns came. To others, this doesn't seen like much, but I was so proud of her. It wasn't her crying that day...it was me!

These people are among the few that inspired me to become a teacher.
