Name: Shanna HendersonThe Greatest Soap Invention
Technology Integrated Lesson
Annotation
The "The Greatest Soap Invention" lesson could be used with
children in kindergarten through third grade. This lesson is designed
for kindergarten level students. The students will begin with a hands-on
technology research activity. The students will research the topic
of fighting bacteria through connecting Internet links on the topic page
that I developed for my field class students. This is a cross-curricular
lesson integrating science, language arts, technology, and art.
Primary Learning Outcome:
With teacher guidance students will be able to research the Internet
and use the computer to find information for the writing and drawing scenario
activity. What are the different ways of fighting bacteria?

Procedures:
Step One
Introduce students to topic by asking them: "Do you know what bacteria
is?" "Do you know what causes bacteria?" Today we are going
to learn about bacteria by visiting websites on the Internet. I have
made a special page for your class about bacteria. (During the introduction
the teacher relates the lesson to the students.)
Estimated Time:
5 minutes
Step Two
Introduce topic page to students and visit several websites.
Discuss the special information in each website with students. (Will
save
"Fighting Bacteria" website to use in Step Four below.)
Estimated time:
15 minutes
Step Three
Read scenario to students. Tell them they are going to invent
soap. Discuss with the student the various soaps on the market.
Tell
the students that the information that they will need to invent their soap
and describe it is linked in the scenario.
Estimated Time:
5 minutes
| Imagine that you have been
given an assigment to invent a soap that kills bacteria better than any
other soap
Write a description of your new soap. Draw a picture of your soap and at the bottom of the picture tell how it can be used to kill bacteria. To help you in your assignment visit the Soap and Detergent Association. For more information see my topic lesson plan. |
Step Four
Visit the website for information for scenario activity, "The Greatest
Soap Invention." Discuss the Web pages and ask the students questions
to emphasize important information to complete the scenario activity.
Estimated Time:
5 minutes
Step Five
Students write (or dictate to teacher to write) articles and draws
pictrues for the scenario activity.
Estimated Time:
10 minutes
Step Six
Closure: Discuss with students the scenario activity and what they
learned about fighting bacteria. Tell students that you are going
to publish their pictures on the Internet to share with everyone.
Estimated Time:
5 minutes
Assessment:
Student will be assessed through the use of the computer with teacher
guidance to find information for the scenario activity.
Satisfactory: Student is able to use the computer with teacher
guidance to find information for the scenario activity.
Unsatisfactory: Student is not able to use the computer with
teacher guidance to find information for the scenario activity.
Student will be assessed through the use of technology for writing.
Satisfactory: Student is able to write or dictate information
for scenario activity that was obtained while exploring the Internet.
Unsatisfactory: Student is not able to write or dictate information
for scenario activity that was obtained while exploring the Internet.
Accommodation:
The student that I need to make accomodations for is Developmentally
Delayed. He has trouble comprehending directions and needs assistance on
all assignments. To accomodate this student, I will make sure he understands
the directions of the assignment by repeating them to him. I will give
him examples and visuals, so he can visualize what he is supposed to do
also. I will also pair him with a more advanced student to aid in assisting
him.
Below is a website for further information pertaining to Developmentally Delayed.
Reflections:
1.Describe and give examples of how the students
were engaged in learning and responded during your lesson. (Tell what
the students did to show they were learning during the lesson, Give specific
examples: e.g., students appeared to be engaged during the lesson when
they discussed the different parts of the butterfly life cycle and asked
questions about caterpillars and butterflies during the lesson. )
2.
Describe
and give examples of how the students achieved the assessment of your lesson.
Give
the achievement level (satisfactory or unsatisfactory) for each assessment
for each of your students. (Give
specific examples that illustrate how your students did
for each part of the lesson's assessment.)
3. Describe what you would change or do different if you taught this lesson again. (Give specific examples)
