Valdosta State University

Hey. My name is Stuart Clawson, and I am from Thomasville, Georgia. As of now I am attending Valdosta State University in Valdosta, Georgia. My major is undecided right now, but in my future I plan to pursue a career that involves music. The reason I decided to attended VSU is because a lot of my friends attend the school and really seem to like it so I decided to give it a shot. I have three older brothers, and two of them attend the University as well. I love listening to music, singing, playing guitar, and sports. When I graduate college I plan to move to Nashville, TN and pursue a career that involves music in some way.

The Freshman Year Experience

Your freshman year experience at Valdosta State University is critical in laying the groundwork for a successful academic and professional career. Employers view a well rounded successful academic career as evidence that students can be equally successful and productive in their chosen fields. Success begins by mastering the three principal tasks of the first year student:

  • Academic Skills Development
  • Adjusting to College Life
  • Developing Academic & Career Goals

VSU’s Freshman Year Experience (FYE) is an outstanding student development program that assists first-year students accomplish these tasks.  The program is designed primarily for students who have not yet decided on an academic major.

FYE has been a great experience for me. It has helped me out socially here at VSU. It has allowed me to get to know my classmates better by giving more than one class with all of them. Academically, it has also been very helpful because it has allowed me to have very student-friendly professors. I have learned a lot from the FYE program such as as: working together, helping out others, etc. The program is very helpful in one's college development. I would recommend FYE to every incoming freshman next year.
