        Edward Jenner

        Edward Jenner was born may 17th 1749 Gloucestershire. His father was the vicar of Berkeley the Reverend James Stephen Jenner, his mother was Sarah     Jenner. He had 8 brothers and sisters. When he was five years old both of his parents had died and he was left in the care of his eldest sister Mary. Mary was married to the incoming vicar the reverend GC Black

        White attending school as a small child he was inoculated against small pox. The inoculation affected him for the duration of his life. When he was 14 years old he began working as the apprentice of Dr Daniel Ludlow. Under the tutelage of Dr Ludlow he learned how to become a surgeon. He moved to London in 1770 to

        There are two popular stories about the origin of the word, "nerd."

        The first is that it come from Dr. Suess's "If I Ran the Zoo," in which appears a creature called a "nerd." This book was published in 1950.

        "I'll sail to Ka-Troo And Bring Back an It-Kutch, a Preep and a Proo, A Nerkle, a Nerd, and a Seersucker, too!"

        The second is that it is a variation on the name of ventriloquist Edgar Bergen's (Candace's father) dummy, "Mortimer Snerd."

        Either theory could be correct. There is no record of the term prior to its 1950 appearance in the Dr. Suess book. The earliest citing of the    current usage is from 1951.
