The Freshman Year Experience Program

Your freshman year experience at Valdosta State University is critical in laying the groundwork for a successful academic and professional career. Employers view a well rounded successful academic career as evidence that students can be equally successful and productive in their chosen fields. Success begins by mastering the three principal tasks of the first year student:

  • Academic Skills Development
  • Adjusting to College Life
  • Developing Academic & Career Goals

I am very glad I was given the opportunity to experience FYE! This program has allowed me to learn great values for my life in college.  FYE has taught me how to dedicate my time in academic activities as well as extracurricular activities that will help me later on in life.  The one thing that I have gotten from FYE that will stick with me the rest of my college career as well as my life is not to procrastinate.  I realize that due dates are closer than they appear and I should value the time I have to work on my career.

About Me

My name is Shanice Brown and I am from Augusta,GA.  I live there with my mother, brother, and two sisters.  I love my family very much and that is why I enjoy spending time with them more than any other thing.  Besides spending time with my family I enjoy hanging out with friends.  I always find the time that I spend with my friends very valuable.  I also enjoy going to Bible study with my friends.  It is always good to have good Christian friends.  One of my biggest hobbies is laughing.  If you can make me laugh then we can be friends!
I decided to come to Valdosta State when I was only in the ninth-grade.  I had come here to visit my cousin who attended here at that time and every since I fell in love with its beautiful campus.  My second reason for coming to Valdosta State was because of its wonderful program in Education.  Some where deep down inside I knew that I wanted to become a teacher.
