WELCOME! My name is Shana Dorminey! I am from Moultrie, Georgia. Moultrie is a
small town and everybody pretty much knows everybody. I live with my
parents and my brother,
Austin. My dad owns a bait and tackle store and my mom works with
medical equipment. My brother is still in high school, but he will
graduate soon. Growing up, I enjoyed many activities. One thing I
really enjoyed was playing softball. I played softball for 9 years. Not
only did I play for the local Recreational Department, but I also
played in tournaments and on all-star leagues. This sport has always
and will always be one of my favorite. During seventh grade, I also
joined the band. I stuck with band all the way through high school.
Once in high school, I became part of the 50th Regiment Band. I
danced on the dance-line during football season and played the Clarinet
during concert season. I also got to go on many trips while in band. My
ninth grade year started off with a trip to Washington
D.C. so that the band could march in the National Cherry Blossom
Parade. During my eleventh grade year, the band went to Orlando,
Florida, where we had the opportunity to march in the Tangerine Bowl's
half time show. My senior year in high, we went to New York City and
Philadelphia. I got to do many things in NYC including watching Phantom
of the Opera on Broadway and seeing the Rockettes Christmas Spectacular
in the Radio City Music Hall. While in Philadephia, I got to march in
the ABC Boscov's Thanksgiving Day Parade. I had many wonderful
experiences growing up and I would not trade them for anything.
~SCHOOLS
AND EDUCATION~
My
educational journey began at Doerun Elementary. I attended this school
from Kindergarten through 2nd Grade. After 2nd grade, my family and I
moved. I then began Okapilco Elementary. I went to this school from 3rd
grade through 5th grade. When 5th grade came around I was pretty
nervous about having to go to middle school, but the teachers at Willie
J. Williams Middle School made me feel right at home. I had some of the
best teachers at this school. I had the same teachers for 6th, 7th, and
8th grade. I only thought I was nervous when I started middle school,
but it all hit me when I started high school. I spent 4 years at
Colquitt County High School and graduated with a College Prep with
Distinction Diploma in 2004. After high school, I went to Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College
(ABAC). I attended here for 2 1/2 years and finally graduated in Fall
2006. I recieved my Associate of Science in P-12 Special Education from
ABAC. That leads me to where I am today. I am now attending Valdosta
State University. Here, I am majoring in Interrelated Special
Education/Early Childhood Education. I am hoping to have my Master's in
Fall 2009. After I get my Masters, I plan to start teaching. I also
would like to come back to school during the summers and get my
Education Specialist Degree in Administration. I really believe
education is a big part of a great life and I plan on using my
education to the best of my ability.
~IN MY SPARE TIME~
When I am not at school, I enjoy doing many
things. I am a really big family person. My family means a lot to me.
They always seem to know how to make me unwind after a long week of
school. As we have gotten older, my brother and I have gotten closer
and we seem to fight less. This small step really makes a different in
my life. Another thing that I like to do is spend time with my
boyfriend. I don't get to see him during the week, so we try to see
each other as much as possible on the weekends. We have been dating
since June 2005. One of the things that my boyfriend and I like
to do together is go shopping. Some of my favorite stores are Old Navy, Maurices,
and Charlotte Russe. Another thing I love doing, whether I am riding
down the road, doing homework, hanging out with my friends, or just
relaxing, is listening to music.
Music always seems to calm me down after a long stressful day. I can
definately say that music plays a BIG role in my everyday life. When I
am driving home from school (1 hour-one way), I will turn my radio up
and sing at the top of my lungs. It helps take out the stress of
everyday living. Every spare minute I get, I just thank God for
allowing me to have that moment.
