CS 1000-C: Introduction to Microcomputers and Applications

Course Objective:

To develop conceptual knowledge about hardware, software and 
communications. Students will be familiar with the Internet, 
computer operating system, computer applications, and information 
technology.

Course Description:

This course covers computing technology and concepts and develops 
skills in personal-computer applications.  Topics include hardware
and software terminology, word processing, spreadsheets, e-mail, and
the Internet. It also covers the microcomputer operating system,
ethics, and current trends in the use of computers. A hands-on
laboratory is integrated with the course. A student may not receive
credit for both CS 115(CS 1000) and CS 138(CS 1010).

Grading Policy:

             The grade for the course will be assigned based on the following 
             percentages:
 
 3 - 4  Tests (written and lab):      70 - 80%
	If you miss a test, the score you make on the final will be assigned
	for that test.
          
 8 - 12 Assignments:                  20 - 30%
	Assignments are expected at the beginning of the class of the day they are
        due. Assignment that is not turned on time, could be turned on the due
        date of the following assignment with a note describing the reason 
        for not turning it on time, and it will be graded with a penalty of
        30% to 50%. Assignments that are not turned in with the following 
        assignments will have a penalty of 75%. All late assignments will be 
        graded at the end of the term.
