Valdosta State University

Hey, my name is Stephanie Crook. I am a freshman at Valdosta State University. I am the middle child of my family. My older sister is twenty, and my younger brother is thirteen, and I am extremely close to both of them. I am originally from Alpharetta Georgia. I want to major in Communication disorders, and become a speech pathologist, like my mom. I decided to attend VSU because of the  great communication disorder program.

The Freshman Year Experience Program

Your freshman year experience at Valdosta State University is critical in laying the groundwork for a successful academic and professional career. Employers view a well rounded successful academic career as evidence that students can be equally successful and productive in their chosen fields. Success begins by mastering the three principal tasks of the first year student:

  • Academic Skills Development

  • Adjusting to College Life

  • Developing Academic & Career Goals

VSU’s Freshman Year Experience (FYE) is an outstanding student development program that help assists first-year students in accomplishing these tasks.  The program is designed primarily for students who have not yet decided on an academic major.

Freshmen year experience was a great learning experience. It really gives me a comforting feeling knowing I have an advisor who is willing to help me through anything. It is also comforting I have twenty six people who have had some of the same experiences  as I did while being in FYE. Registering for classes can be a stressful and confusing process, but being in FYE really helped me make the right academic decisions.
