| Language Arts: 1. Kid's Space: The fun, and somewhat interactive website allows children of all ages to post samples of their writing and art work. What I enjoy so much about Kid's Space is that the site is international; therefore, you and your students can see children's work from all around the globe. Visitors of this site can also view clothing and costumes worn by people in other countries such as Bulgaria, Greece, and Norway. You can even listen to a Polish song! All children will love this website. 2. LessonPlansPage: LessonPlansPage.com is a great site for kindergarten students and younger to practice concepts such as their ABC's, vowels, and upper and lowercase letters. This website is also useful for teachers because it provides great lesson plans for our students. Parents can even enjoy LessonPlansPage.com with their children by trying some of the activities at home. Preschoolers will have fun learning to play ABC Freeze Tag! Other activities for children include memory games, card games, and flash cards. |
| Reading 1. Weekly Reader: I really like this website because it not only provides wonderful poetry and other works of literature for parents and teachers to share with their children, but it also has lessons on other important topics such as rhyming and matching. This site would be a wonderful tool for parents to use at home to encourage their children to read. There is also a link to the science magazine Science Spin, along with links to other fantastic elementary, middle, and high school magazines. 2. Caldecott: Children of all ages, and even some adults, love to see beautiful pictures when reading a book. The Caldecott Medal is an award given to illustrators for the best pictures in a book. On the homepage for Caldecott Medal, older children will enjoy finding books to read that have wonderful pictures. |
| Math 1. Coolmath4kids: This awesome site is great for preschoolers to practice counting, matching, and memorizing! Fun, interesting games get children excited about math. I also like this site because of the way it is designed. It will really attract a child's attention. This site is also good for older kids who need practice in math concepts such as algebra and geometry. Any student will love coolmath4kids! 2. Math Cats: This website is so much fun, even adults will enjoy it. Find out, to the second, how old you are! Children will enjoy the math games and activities along with interactive projects. There are even math crafts for children such as "Number City" and "Polygon Airport." Teachers and children will love Math Cats! |
| Social Studies 1. Helping Your Child Learn Geography: This site offers activities for children that deal with the many aspects of geography. Kindergartners can learn about maps, climate, and direction! Parents and teachers can use this site as a very helpful tool for teaching their children about geography. 2. Countries: Older children will enjoy this website! Countries are easily listed from A to Z so that students can easily click on one and learn all about it. Kids can even find a flag for any country in the world! There is also a link to different fun sites for children and a "learning" link that allows students to get help with homework, read many biographies of people in history, and read about current events. |
| Science 1. TeachingHeart: TeachingHeart.net is an absolutely fantastic site for preschoolers to learn about insects such as spiders, bumblebees, and butterflies. The site's "3-D insect" section provides life-like pictures of insects so children can see realistic features of bugs up close. This site is also perfect for teachers who plan to do units on insects; it provides lesson plans, poems, activities, links, books, and much more related to this topic. 2. Dragonfly: Have you ever seen an insect that walks on water? Find out all about it on the Dragonfly webpages. This awesome website allows students to investigate science topics such as water, trees, and time through fun links. Kids can learn about how animals communicate and how to help save the planet. Children will really love Dragonfly. |
| Art 1. Crayola: This fun site will really get young children interested and excited about art! From coloring pages to arts and crafts activities, there is something for every child to enjoy on the Crayola website. I love this site because it even has a section for educators that includes lesson plans, a way to print out certificates for students, success guides, and new art techniques to try with our class! Crayola is one of the best art websites I have seen so far! 2. Kinderart: Teachers do not have to settle for printing out pages for their students to simply color. Kinderart is a wonderful place for teachers to get creative and fun art lesson plans for the kindergarten-fourth grade students. There are even a couple of great projects for pre-schoolers to enjoy. This site provides information about everything teachers will need to make their chosen art project a success. |
| Music 1. Songs for Teaching: I found that Songs for teaching had some of the most creative ways to incorporate music into the classroom. Children can sing songs to learn their alphabet and numbers, body parts, seasons, and just for fun! There are also numerous songs for kids in kindergarten and up to sing. The songs for teaching site allows you to listen to the songs as well as read the lyrics. 2. San Francisco Kids: From the musical introduction to the colorful pages, children are sure to enjoy the SFS Kids site! Children and adults will learn the different families of instruments and the many instruments of the orchestra. You will also find a real instrument seating chart. This site begins at the top with teaching you about staffs, clefs, and notes. Visitors of the site can even compose their own tune! This website is a perfect way to get students interested and excited about music! |

Preschool Lesson Ideas: The Physical Education section of this website is great because it is aimed directly at pre-schoolers and because it is divided into "Lesson Type," "Activity Name," and "Grade." There are even "Sub categories" such as throwing and catching, rhythm and dance, and jumping and landing. Teachers are sure to find a great activity for any topic at this great site. 2. BAM: On the Body and Mind website, kids can learn how to stay fit for life! Students will also discover interesting facts about different diseases such as asthma and West Nile virus. There is also a section for students to learn how to stay stress-free. Overall, this is a great website for students to learn how to stay healthy. |
| Health and Hygiene 1. PBS Teacher Source: The PBS Teacher Source is a great site for children to learn about topics such as the body, emotional development, safety, and many other important topics. This site is wonderful because it allows parents and educators to choose the topic for their pre-schoolers, along with the topic they wish to study. Activities and games make learning about health and hygiene fun and enjoyable. 2. Healthfinder: At this fun website, children can learn about topics that are "cool" and "uncool." For example, exercise is cool. But alcohol is uncool. Other topics include smoking, nutrition, and drugs. Also, through fun, interactive games, kids can put out a forest fire, find their way out of a pyramid, and even ride a tube along a toxic waste river. All students should check out Healthfinder.com! |
