Welcome to the Personal Website of Ron Barnette

Greetings to an infinite cyber-excursion, as the screen shows

This page will undergo regular revision, as I add links and information of interest. I hope you will find my inclinations enjoyable to read!

As Professor Emeritus of Philosophy at Valdosta State University, I have been in the Philosophy Department for thirty years (yikes!). I was co-founder of our Center for Professional and Applied Ethics, in which I currently serve as a Center professor, responsible for coursework, research, and resources in ethics and technology. My major research interests include work in information technology, cognitive science, logic and philosophy of education. Here's a short vitae.

I received my undergraduate B.A. in Philosophy from California State University, Long Beach, and my Ph.D. in Philosophy from the University of California at Irvine.

A current project is with providing teaching and research opportunities over the Internet. I have designed and taught over twenty university courses online, including  my first PHICYBER , A Virtual Classroom: the Electronic Agora, launched in 1993. A central feature of this class is to explore the evolution of thought and dialogue between participants who have never made physical conduct; it's a real (virtual?) case of memes interacting with memes.

I have listed some links which I find interesting; the list will undergo constant revision, though. I hope you enjoy the visit.
