Course Syllabus for PHIL 9070: Philosophy of Education

Philosophical Foundations of Education (7th ed), by Ozmon and Craver (Prentice Hall); all other materials will be available online through the class website.
 
Course description:
A systematic analysis of topics central to educational philosophy, including theories of education, critical thinking, ethical principles, and applications to problems and topics. Ongoing class discussion is central to the enterprise.

Learning Outcomes and Objectives:

Course Responsibilities:

Through readings, discussions (over PHILED, our electronic forum) and individual research and reflection , each student will demonstrate a working knowledge of the above outcomes and course objectives in three broad areas of focus: theory, method and application. Specifically, each of the participants in our voyage will (1) submit (through PHILED) on a regular basis a response to a question posed by the professor, and will respond to at least one of another's responses; and (2) submit (electronically, directly to the professor) eight essays (each 3-5 pages in length) over the course of the term.
