The bench is based loosely on the one in Issue 25 of Today's Woodworker. The main difference is that I used a solid top and 4x4 stock for the base. The top is held together with seven lengths of 1/2" threaded steel rod. The base is held together with large mortise and tenon joints and cross dowels to hold the joints tight. The top is held to the base with bolts into threaded steel inserts in the underside of the top. The skirt is held to the top with square-drive wood screws.
This bench is a dream to use and just the right size for me. It is 30" wide by 80" long and 39" high. I drilled three rows of dog holes in the top and a row down each side. Future (very soon) enhancements include two lengths of T-track in the top and some drawers in the bottom, per the Today's Woodworker plans.
I've got a feeling I'm going to be using this baby for a looong time...
