In this picture, you can see the old sink and stove. Both were of the small "apartment-size"
variety because that's the size that was there when my parents bought the house and it would
have required a major cabinet overhaul to change sizes. Also, above the stove, was a noisy
vent hood that was vented through the wall where a window used to be. In the upper left corner
of the picture, you can see the bare light bulb that was the only light in the room.
The base cabinets (and the red countertop) in this picture were part of the original house construction. These cabinets were the only cabinets (except for a small metal medicine cabinet) in the entire house when my parents bought it in the early 1970's. In addition to being a few inches shorter than "normal", the cabinets were only 18" deep.
The wall cabinets were a combination of old mobile home cabinets and some custom-built cabinets.
The countertops and backsplashes were Formica of various colors.
In this picture, you can see the refrigerator and one of the old cabinets. The cabinet was
a mobile home cabinet, made mostly of particle board, thin paneling, and staples. It had
been cut into two pieces and re-assembled on site to make it fit.
