ART 3061: Ceramics 1

Students are introduced to a variety of ceramic methods and concepts, such as coil, pinch, slab construction, extruding and throwing on the wheel. Assignments vary from functional to sculptural, using a variety of materials including stoneware and porcelain. Students are exposed to electric/oxidation, raku, soda firing and high fire reduction.

ART 4062: Ceramics 2

Students continue working with a variety of ceramic methods and concepts. Introduction to plaster mold making, multiples, sets, installation, digital transfers, etc. As the class is repeated for credit the student will explore a personal direction, wheel, hand-building, mold making/slip casting, function, sculpture, figure, etc. Directed study classes may be taken as well.

Special Topics classes are offered, previous classes include:

-Kiln Building, Glaze Calculation and Figure Modeling

ART 1030: Three Dimensional Design

This foundation art course will introduce students to the fundamental concepts and components of three-dimensional design in art. Students will develop skills in designing and generating sculptural works using a variety of studio construction methods and materials. A Wood Shop Orientation/Safety & Equipment Training Workshop is incorporated into this course to instruct students in the use of woodworking power-tools and machinery and to familiarize students with studio safety procedures.
