ART 4150 Kiln Design Construction and Resources: May 2005
10 students constructed a cross-draft soda kiln during a May-mester class summer 2005. The old soft brick downdraft kiln was removed and the site prepped for the new kiln. The previous kiln was built in 1976 by professor Don Penny. I am told it was fueled by kerosene, drip, fuel oil and natural gas over the years. I converted it to a soda kiln in 2002 after it sat for nearly a decade unused. I was sad to see it come down.
