Procedures
Step 1:
The teacher
will begin the lesson by reviewing what the students learned from reading
the book A More Perfect Union. The teacher will tell the students
that today they are going to be following the route that delegates took
from Georgia to Pennsylvania for the convention. The teacher will tell
the students that the Goode's Atlas will help them to explore and discover
information about the journey for those delegates. Some of the information
the students will discover includes: terrain, weather patterns, any natural
disasters, land forms, etc. they may have affected the journey of the delegates
from Georgia to Pennsylvania.
Step 2:
The students
will use the Goode's Atlas to find information about the journey. The students
begin by finding the state Georgia and then locating Pennsylvania. After
they have found the states they will list the states that you need to travel
through to get to Pennsylvania.
Step 3:
After the
students have finished their list, the teacher tells the students to look
up information in the atlas that focuses on terrain, weather patterns,
land forms, etc. The teacher will tell the students to write down any information
that will help them to locate and draw on a map the travel of the delegates.
The information should be detailed because this will aid them in creating
their map.
Step 4:
When the students
have completed step 3, have them form groups to complete their maps. Each
student must turn in a map. This is what will be assessed.
Assessment
The students
will be assessed according to how accurate their maps and information was
according to the atlas. A rubric will be used to assess the students.
