Rechenka's Eggs
Written and Illustrated by: Patricia Polacco

egg picture

Throughout the long, cold, winter Babushka carefully painted beautifully intricate designs on eggs that she would enter into a contest at the spring festival. One day after a snowstorm, Babushka went outside and was watching some caribou, when a goose fell from the sky. It had been injured by a hunter. Babushka carefully picked the goose up and took her inside to nurse back to health. Babushka named her Renchenka. Babushka fed Renchenka and gave her a special bed. Renchenka grew stronger daily and was so grateful to Babushka that she laid her an egg every morning for breakfast. Soon Rechenka was well enough to waddle around Babushka's home. One day she jumped onto the table where Babushka was painting her eggs and knocked over the egg basket, sending Babushka's beautiful eggs crashing to the floor!

What do you think Babushka did after Rechenka knocked over the eggs?
How do you think the story will end?
