My name is Miranda Simmons, and I am a Valdosta State University senior.  However, my first two years of college I went to Gainesville College and received my associate's in early childhood.  I changed my major last year, so now I am an interrelated major.  With this program I will earn my master's in special education.  My education prior to college mostly took place in Hall County, except the last two years of high school during which I attended Lowndes High.  Once I receive my degrees, I plan to return to North Georgia.
 One of the more interesting things about me is I've taken the opportunity to study abroad in Europe.  I went to the Czech Republic in May 2006.  As part of a study abroad program through the psychology department, I took the opportunity to take the educational psychology course as a Maymester class at Palacky University.  Granted, 26 days is not an extended stay overseas, but I did enjoy the sights, sounds, and people of this country with accompanying students, teachers, and natives.
There are many things I do outside of school, however.  I am a lover of classic British and American novels, but I have not been able to read much since I've started my college career; Jane Austen is one of my favorite authors.   I don't usually watch much broadcast TV, but on a rare occasion I'll watch Everybody Loves Raymond, The Bernie Mac Show, and maybe some others.  During my spare time I also advocate for children's rights through VSU's chapter of UNICEF.  One of my favorite pasttimes is hiking, especially hiking in North Georgia; my favorite trail is Ravencliff Falls Trail at Unicoi State Park.  I also like to have Bible studies with my boyfriend and other friends, sing hymns, and attend church functions.
