Let's Go on a Reading Treasure Hunt
in
Mrs. Kroes' 8th grade Resource Reading Class
Designed and Created by Melanie Kroes
My name is Melanie Kroes and I am in my
third semester with Valdosta State University working on my Masters of
Special Education in General Education. I am presently teaching at Mill
Creek Middle School located in beautiful Woodstock, Georgia . Woodstock,
Georgia is located about 35 miles north of Atlanta, Georgia. It is a
small little town with plenty of wonderful historic buildings dating
back to the late 1800's. Our school is named for a creek that runs
through the town. We are moving into a wonderful new building next year
to house all our Mill Creek Wildcats!!
I am one of the few Georgia natives that
has lived here all my life. I grew up about 8 miles from where I live
right now and still see many of my few classmates that I had throughout
elementary school and high school. I also received my undergraduate
Bachelor of Arts Degree from Berry College in Rome, Georgia. I have
been married for 23 years and have 2 boys. Some of my favorite things
to do are gardening, sailing and working on various projects around the
house. A very good location to get information on how to complete
projects around the house is on the DIY Network.
My 8th grade classroom is a
resource reading classroom. We will read various types of genres
throughout the year and conduct at least 2 novel studies. We are
presently using a program called Read 180.
This program is a wonderful intervention program designed to help
readers of all ages, on all different reading levels. The program is
designed to work on the specific needs of each student throughout the
school year. I encourage you to go to the website and read about the
program and its benefits for each and every student.
