Technology Connection:
Technologies that will be used in this lesson include:
Procedures:
Step One:
Introduction
Have a small group of students go to a computer. Explain to
students that you are going to use the computer to read an
Mini-Research eBook
about Counting.
Today we are going
to read an eBook
on the Internet.
I have made a special Mini-Research eBook on the Internet for your
class. (During discussion have students turn around away from the
computer to interact.) We are going to be counting some items you may
see when you eat at one of your favorite restaurants, Burger King. When
we are fininshed reading the book we will do an activity. In this
activity, you will become a Burger King employee, just like me.
Estimated Time for Step One:
5 minutes
Step Two
Teaching the Primary Learning Outcomes:
(Students will sit at the computer where they can control the
mouse
and computer.) (Explain to students the process of the
lesson.) We are going to read my Mini-Research eBook and visit
several different websites that will help you practice counting. We
will turn the first page of the eBook. (Help students navigate to the
first page) Once everyone is on the 1st page, read aloud(going in a
left-to-right motion) what is on the page. Count the manipulatives on
the page. Make sure the students are counting the manipulatives in a
one-to-one correspondence. Give the students five minutes to
play the game attached to this page. Direct students to navigate back
to the ebook, and on to the 2nd page.Once everyone is on the 2nd page,
read aloud(going in a left-to-right motion) what is on the page. Count
the manipulatives on the page. Make sure the students are counting the
manipulatives in a one-to-one correspondence.Give
the students five minutes to
play the game attached to this page. Direct students to navigate back
to the ebook, and on to the 3rd page.Once everyone is on the 3rd page,
read aloud(going in a left-to-right motion) what is on the page. Count
the manipulatives on the page. Make sure the students are counting the
manipulatives in a one-to-one correspondence.Give
the students five minutes to
play the game attached to this page.Ask the Direct students to
navigate back
to the ebook, and on to the 4th page. .Once everyone is on the 4th
page,
read aloud(going in a left-to-right motion) what is on the page. Count
the manipulatives on the page. Make sure the students are counting the
manipulatives in a one-to-one correspondence.Give
the students five minutes to
play the game attached to this page. Direct students to navigate back
to the ebook, and the last page is the eBook activity.
Check for understanding
Students with either the teacher's or preservice teacher's assistance
will read the Mini-Research eBook,
explore, and
discuss
the games in the four linking websites that go with the
Mini-Research eBook. Explain to the students that each portion of
the eBook is to help them understand how to count using real life
things. Ask the students these questions while on the coinciding page.
Practice and feedback related to the
PLO
Read the Mini-Research eBook project to students. Explain to
students that
they
are going to be Burger King
workers, just like their Preservice teacher. Also, tell them that they
have a very important task to do.
Tell
the
students that the information that they will need to complete
their Mini-Research eBook project is listed and connected in
the Mini-Research eBook
activity. Allow the students to navigate back to the page that
has ten items on it (page 2) if they need help seeing what ten
manipulatives look like. Read aloud the
instructions on
the Mini-Research eBook activity page with the students in a
left-to-right motion. Emphasize to the students the importance of
making sure to count the number of items they create to make sure they
have enough.

Mini-Research
eBook Teaching Strategy Activity
(Your Mini-Research eBook Teaching Strategy Activity copied from your Mini-Research eBook.) Today, just like me, you are going to be a Burger King employee. There is going to be a class of Pre-k students coming to eat lunch with us. Please help me make sure I have all of the items to make the Kid's meal. You need to have: * ten Kid's meal bags
* ten toys * ten fry holders * ten burgers * ten drink cups Draw the toys, fry holders, burger, and drink cups. If you need some ideas of what the items look like, look at pages 2, 3, and 4. Cut out each item. Count each item that you drew to make sure you have ten of each item. I will give you the bags to put them in. You can only have one item per bag. You have to make sure that you have enough of everything for each child! We will put them in the bags to give to the children. Thank you so much for helping me with this big problem. |
Step Three
Closure:
Have students discuss their feelings on the Mini-Research eBook
activity and
information they found on the Internet.
Tell students that your Mini-Research eBook Website is on the Internet
and
they can
visit the website at school or home, with parent's or teacher's
permission. If possible, provide the links to your students. Explain to
students
that you are going to put their pictures and information
on the Internet and they will be able to share their Burger King
projects with
their friends and family. (If possible teacher should take
brief
notes during the lesson and concluding discussions to be added
later
to the assessment and reflections in lesson plan.)
Estimated Time for Step Three:

Comments & Reflections:
Assessment for the
Primary Learning Outcomes (PLOs)
Student will be assessed through
observation and oral discussion to
evaluate if student with teacher guidance is able to listen to
information to gain knowledge. (Use information from your PLO at top
of page of this lesson.)
| Level 3 | Level 2 | Level 1 | |
|
(List
your PLO from top of page of this lesson.) PLO: Students will be able to count the manipulatives in a one-to-one correspondence |
Student with teacher guidance is able to count some of the manipulatives in a one-to-one correspondence to a certain number | Student with teacher guidance is able to count a few of the manipulatives in a one-to-one correspondence to a certain number | Student is not able with teacher guidance to count any of the manipulatives in a one-to-one correspondence |

counting and stating what number it was. |
1.
Comment and describe the
learning strategy
that you implemented in your
Mini-Research eBook Teaching Strategy Lesson. (*
To receive full credit description must include a minimum of two
sentences and a detailed example.)
The learning strategy that I
implemented in my lesson was to provide to students that you need to
have an education in whatever job you decide to work at regardless of
what type it is. Although the children were very young, they were very
responsive to the lesson. I feel as if they will remember this lesson
further on in life, especially when they are looking for a job.
2. State evidence to show that
your students gained knowledge during your Mini-Research eBook Teaching
Strategy Lesson. (*
To receive full credit description must include a minimum of two
sentences and a detailed example.)
BK commented to me that she had a lot
of fun with the lesson and she was happy that she could count the
manipulatives on the page. AG felt as if she was assisted in learning
how to count, and she felt as if she would be able to do it on her own.
Both students wanted to return to the eBook and practice counting again.
3. Give at least one suggestion that would lead to improving your teaching practices and student achievement. (* To receive full credit description must include a minimum of two sentences and a detailed example.)
To improve my teaching practices, I
would need to slow down speaking to the children at the beginning so I
will not have to explain things to them over again. I should talk to
the students on a level that they can understand. I think I have great
teaching strategiess, I just have to implement the plans.
