All About Me:
My name is Lezli.  I am an Early Childhood Education Major at Valdosta State University (VSU).  I was born, Lezli Renee Thomas, on September 19, 1973 in Louisville, Kentucky and grew up there until I was 7 years old and then I moved to Miami, Florida where I lived until I was 14.  I moved back to Louisville and attended Jeffersontown High School until I graduated in 1991.  I finished one year of college at Jefferson Community College (affiliate of University of Kentucky) and in April of 1992 I married Ronald (Lee) Gill.  He is in the Air Force and our first base was in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan, where our daughter, Leeza Marie Gill was born.  We were there for about 2 1/2 years at which time we got stationed at Moody Air Force Base (Valdosta area), Georgia.  In September 1998 we moved to Andersen Air Force Base in GUAM, USA.  I really loved it there.  It was an experience which will always be a great part of me.  Please visit our Family/Guam page to see pictures of Guam.   We were so lucky to get stationed back here in Valdosta, Georgia because we own a house here and I needed to get back to my education.  I was at the end of my Junior year at VSU when we left here for Guam.  I attended one semester at the University of Guam while I was there and then worked as a Teacher's Assistant at Andersen Elementary School (a DODEA, Department of Defense Education Activity, school).  I worked with a great teacher and 23 spectacular Kindergarten students.  Now, I am back at VSU and I am so happy to be finishing up my degree!

Why I Want to Be A Teacher:
I want to be a teacher because I want to make a difference.  Even if it is only one child, I will feel that I have accomplished something significant.  I know in my heart and soul that I will be a good teacher because I am empathetic, sensitive and very caring.  I remember being a child very vividly and I remember some of the emotions and feelings of different stages of my childhood.  When dealing with children, it is not hard for me to put myself in their place.  I understand them and I will always be willing to do what it takes to get through to them.

My Inspiration:
For as long as I can remember I have wanted to be a teacher.  I think that I began to feel strongly about it the summer after my 3rd grade year.  My mother tutored and taught me all summer because I had trouble reading and comprehending.  She called up the school system and ordered the 4th grade reading books I would use the coming up year.  We read some of the stories, wrote about them and we wrote poems.  It was because of this experience with my mother that I became confident enough in school to think that I was able to achieve instead of feeling defeated and hating school.  Up until then I had not had anyone take so much interest in me and my needs when it came to learning.  I wrote many more poems after that and in Junior High School (Nautilus Junior High School in Miami, Florida) I took a journalism course and I wrote many poems for the school newspaper.  "I was published!"  I feel that this was a huge turning point in my life and that it was the beginning of my desire to become a teacher.

The following is a great site for Children's Poetry.  I love poetry, especially funny poetry.  It's a great way to entertain and get kids interested in writing!

I have been watching Soap Operas since I was a child.  I think the reason that I like them so much is because they are an ongoing story.  They are literally novels that last forever.  I watch Young and the Restless, As the World Turns, and Days of Our Lives.

Bette Midler is my all time favorite singer!  I have just about every one of her albums.  My favorite songs of hers are Wind Beneath My Wings, From A Distance, Friends, and In My Life

I began reading V.C. Andrews Novels about eight years ago.  I have read about every single series and can't wait until the next one comes out.  Even though V.C. Andrews is dead, her legacy lives on.  Her books are still being written and published.

I also love to read Danielle Steel's novels.  My favorite ones are The Ring, Granny Dan, Once in a Lifetime, Mixed Blessings, and Zoya.
