1. The Northern Right Whale Research Students will research information about Northern Right Whales and fill out worksheet. 2. PLO - Students will be able to view a website about The Northern Right Whale to fill in a worksheet according to the facts they found. 3. Computer with Internet access Websites: Northern Right Whale worksheet Grays Reef Marine Sanctuaries 4. Procedures Students will be put in groups of three and will be directed to the Gray's Reef website above. Independently, students will visit the website to gather important facts. After students gather the information they need, they will receive a worksheet taken from the Northern Right Whale website. While navigating Grays Reef website students should specifically be looking for appearance, habitat, food, threats, status, and interesting behaviors of the Northern Right Whales. If students are unable to gather the information they need from Grays Reef, they can access Marine Sanctuaries to gather more information. They will work in their groups to complete the worksheet during class using their new knowledge. Students will present their new information to the class. 5. Product: Students will use the information they have learned from the websites to complete a worksheet. Students will also use the information they have learned so they can better understand the dependence of the Georgia coast on the Northern Right Whales.  1. Loggerhead Turtles Students will use information on the website to complete the WebQuest. 2. Students will read the information found on the above website about Loggerhead Turtles. Students will use the information about Loggerheads to complete the activity found on the WebQuest. 3. Materials: Computer with Internet access printer crayons Loggerhead Turtle Webquest* Loggerhead Turtle Facts 4. Procedures Students will be placed in groups for this activity. They will be directed to the WebQuest activity page. Students will follow the directions for the task. Students will learn how the Loggerhead turtle has become extincted and how it depends on it's habitat. In the websites, students will be looking for information about Loggerhead Turtles and also using that information to complete an assignment. 5. Product: The information that students find through the websites will help them in deciding which beach Toni the turtle should lay her eggs. This information will also satisfy the PLO through the WebQuest being completed correctly. *WebQuest created by April Friar, Amber McDonald, Aubrey Sullivan, Ebony Thompson 1. Coral Reef Observations Students will view coral reefs through a microscope. They will draw what they see using colored pencils. The drawing will be accompanied with a paragraph written by the student about what type of coral reef they viewed through the microscope. 2. Students will use observational skills to view different types of coral reefs through coral reefs. 3. Coral Reef Activity Coral Reef Facts microscopes pieces of different types of coral reef colored pencils white paper computer with Internet access 4. Procedures Students will use the microscopes to view the details of different types of coral reefs. Students will work on this activity independently. They will draw using colored pencils what they saw through the microscope. Students will also write about what they saw through the microscope on the same piece of paper they drew on. After students complete their drawing, students will research information found on the above website, Coral Reef Facts to write a paragraph about the type of coral reef they observed. The website will give students the information they need about the activity for reference. The facts about coral reefs will help them write their paragraphs about the reef they viewed. 5. Product: Students will use the information that they find in the websites to satisfy the PLO by observing the coral reefs through the microscopes. |

This software can be used with the topic of Georgia coast by allowing students to discover the depth of the ocean. Students will develop knowledge about the animals, the water, and the plants that live in the ocean. Evaluate the software. What problems can one anticipate when using this program. The problems that one might anticipate is that some students might find the exploration to be too trivial.   Title of software program "Treasure Cove" Published by: The Learning Company Explain how the software can be used with this topic to enhance learning. The software can be used to help students use their math, reading, science, and social studies skills to learn sea facts. Evaluate the software. What problems can one anticipate when using this program. The problems that might come up when using this program are that at times the teacher might need to give more detailed help with students.  Title of software program "The Oceans" Published by Not found Explain how the software can be used with this topic to enhance learning. The software can be used for students to learn many aspects about the ocean. This set contains three CD-ROM(s) that pertain to the topic. Students will be able to learn about coral reefs, whales, and dolphins. This software contains pictures, video, and sound clips for students to learn more about the habitat which is right off of the Georgia coast. Evaluate the software. What problems can one anticipate when using this program. I believe that the problems that one can anticipate when using this program will be the difficult material. I think that some children might find the information found on these CD-ROMs to be very difficult to comprehend.  Title

Microsoft Word can be used to allow students to write their observations about coral reefs. Microsoft Word can also be used to write the information about Northern Right Whales. Students will enjoy typing up any activity that could be written using Microsoft Word. Evaluate the software. What problems can one anticipate when using this program. When using Microsoft Word one can anticipate allowing more time to type information. Students will not be able to type as fast as they write in third grade. Students will need to be taught how to use the tools of this program before just letting the students try it on their own.  Title of software program PowerPoint 2003 Published by Microsoft Explain how the software can be used with this topic to enhance learning. Power Point can be used as a presentation to present information to the class. All the above activities can be accommodated to allow power point to be used rather the original activities. Evaluate the software. What problems can one anticipate when using this program. Power point can be a difficult program to learn. However, with the proper instruction students will be able to create simple presentations. A problem that may occur with this program is that it will be very time consuming to teach as a whole group lesson. The students might benefit better if the instruction is given in a small group setting. |
