1. The Northern Right Whale Research Students will research information about Northern Right Whales and fill out worksheet. 2. PLO - Students will be able to view a website about The Northern Right Whale to fill in a worksheet according to the facts they found. 3. Computer with Internet access Websites: Northern Right Whale worksheet Grays Reef Marine Sanctuaries 4. Procedures Students will be put in groups of three and will be directed to the Gray's Reef website above. Independently, students will visit the website to gather important facts. After students gather the information they need, they will receive a worksheet taken from the Northern Right Whale website. While navigating Grays Reef website students should specifically be looking for appearance, habitat, food, threats, status, and interesting behaviors of the Northern Right Whales. If students are unable to gather the information they need from Grays Reef, they can access Marine Sanctuaries to gather more information. They will work in their groups to complete the worksheet during class using their new knowledge. Students will present their new information to the class. 5. Product: Students will use the information they have learned from the websites to complete a worksheet. Students will also use the information they have learned so they can better understand the dependence of the Georgia coast on the Northern Right Whales. ![]() 1. Students will learn how the Loggerhead turtle has become extincted and how it depends on it's habitat. In the websites, students will be looking for information about Loggerhead Turtles and also using that information to complete an assignment. 5. Product: The information that students find through the websites will help them in deciding which beach Toni the turtle should lay her eggs. After students complete their drawing, students will research information found on the above website, Coral Reef Facts to write a paragraph about the type of coral reef they observed. The website will give students the information they need about the activity for reference. The facts about coral reefs will help them write their paragraphs about the reef they viewed. 5. Microsoft Word can be used to allow students to write their observations about coral reefs. Microsoft Word can also be used to write the information about Northern Right Whales. Students will enjoy typing up any activity that could be written using Microsoft Word. Evaluate the software. What problems can one anticipate when using this program. When using Microsoft Word one can anticipate allowing more time to type information. Students will not be able to type as fast as they write in third grade. Power Point can be used as a presentation to present information to the class. All the above activities can be accommodated to allow power point to be used rather the original activities. Evaluate the software. What problems can one anticipate when using this program. Power point can be a difficult program to learn. However, with the proper instruction students will be able to create simple presentations. A problem that may occur with this program is that it will be very time consuming to teach as a whole group lesson. The students might benefit better if the instruction is given in a small group setting. |
