About Me:

My name is Lancie - I'm a recent graduate of Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College.  I graduated from there in Fall 2007 as an honor graduate, receiving my Associates Degree in the field of Early Childhood Education.  Currently, I've taken my little show down the road to a lovely little place known as Valdosta State University.  I'm working diligently to receive my Bachelors Degree in Early Childhood Education by the end of 2009.  Once I achieve this, I plan on getting married to my beau of 4 years and starting a life with him, as well as beginning my professional career as a Prekindergarten teacher.

The sweet smell of success....

I am a published poet - if you check the International Library of Poetry (search Lancie Roberts), you can see a few examples of my work.  The 2nd and 3rd poem listed have won 1st place in the RESA Writing Fair during my high school career.  I am a mother of 2 furry babies - Smoke is a 2-year-old Bombay/Tabby mix; Mischief is a 5-year-old caramel dwarf rabbit.

Interests: Cooking, Creative Writing, World of Warcraft, Dungeons & Dragons, Video Games (RPGs, mainly), Reading, and Renaissance Festivals.
Favorite Books include the Harry Potter Series (J.K. Rowling), the Anita Blake series (Laurell K. Hamilton), Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West (Gregory Maguire), Fried Green Tomatoes at the Whistle Stop Cafe (Fannie Flagg).
Favorite Musical Artists/Bands include Hanson (go ahead and laugh...), Josh Groban, An Cafe (a Japanese Oshare-kei band).  I also enjoy Broadway Musicals such as Rent, Wicked, The Producers, Phantom of the Opera, Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street, Chicago, and Spamalot.  I also have a penchant for '60s and '70s.

Two of my favorite things to do is hang out with my friends and go to Tokyo's Japanese Steakhouse in Tifton, GA.  It's even better when these two things are combined.  It doesn't matter what the occasion (birthdays, anniversaries, departures, or simply to cure a bad day), it's always nice to eat here with friends.

My Talents and/or Accomplishments:

I love to sing, and I have quite the range for a female - I can sing any range from Alto to first Soprano.  I used to write poetry as a form of personal emotional therapy, and I used to submit the poems I wrote to my local writing fair, as well as submit them to the International Library of Poetry.  My freshman year, I took both first and second place, with following first place wins in my sophmore and junior years of high school.  I didn't submit anything my senior year, because I had no new material to give them.  To date, I have written over 100 poems.  Other talents include cooking and computer skills. (I've got a limited experience with HTML, as you can see!)

Academically, I was accepted into the Phi Theta Kappa honors society during my time at ABAC, also graduating with honors from that particular institution.  In my high school days, I graduated with High Honors, High Technical Honors, and as a Member of the National Technical Honors Society.  I also received a scholastic sweater, several academic medals, and 2 scholarships - one scholarship was from Alpha Delta Kappa for Future Educators (Education Majors).  While I was in high school, I was also accepted into the Who's Who of America's High School Students.

I love to travel, and so for my senior trip I got to visit Grand Cayman and Ocho Rios, Jamaica with my mom.  By a fortunate chance, she won two tickets for a 4-day/5-night cruise to the Bahamas that would stop at those two locations.   The cruise was through Carnival, and we had our adventure on the M.S. Imagination.

I think I've tooted my own horn enough... "and now for something completely different!"

Something Special I Would Like To Do/Accomplish:

ljkiss
I can already hear wedding bells...

Other than to graduate VSU with my bachelors degree in Early Childhood Education (by Fall 2009) and get married to my long-time beau, I have very few things that I would genuinely like to do.  I would love to be able to travel - and to several places, mainly abroad. I would love to visit Japan, England, Scotland, Ireland, Germany, France (The Louvre Museum and The Moulin Rouge, please!), Italy, Greece, and Israel.  I hope I can get to Japan soon - I'd really like to see An Cafe in concert!  Speaking of traveling - I would love to be able to visit Broadway and see my favorite musicals: Rent, Wicked, Sweeney Todd, plus several others.

Some of my Favorite Websites

sword  Since I play Blizzard's "World of Warcraft," I use their WoW Armory to look up maps, new gear, and even keep track of how my characters are progressing.  Once in a while, I check on my friends to see how their "toons" are doing, too.  It's a very helpful resource when it comes to locating things in a short amount of time.  It's definately a convenience for me!

axe  Speaking of "World of Warcraft," I really enjoy watching things related to the game.  The Guild is an online show centering around a character named Codex and her online friends that she has met over an MMORPG (massive multiplayer online role playing game).  This mini-show is devoid of most gaming jargon, so it’s not just for gamers.  I think it’s funny, and not to mention I think Bladezz is cool.  ^_^  This show’s first episode has already had over 1 million hits on youtube.com, and it’s now completely funded through fan donations.  Once I can afford to, I plan on donating, myself.  Click on the picture below to go the main website.

I love reading Laurell K. Hamilton novels - especially those in her Anita Blake: Vampire Hunter series.  So far, there are 15 books published in the series.  The 16th installment Blood Noir will be out June 3, 2008.  I find the books absolutely exciting and riveting - police cases, zombie raisings, vampire slayings, plus Anita's love life (which has its own little quirks and issues).  This page is the writer's official page, you can check out information on the AB:VH series or her Merideth Gentry series from here.  You can find all sorts of sneak peeks and goodies for her books at this website, so that's my main reason for going.  Start with Guilty Pleasures - let the series sink its teeth in you!

One of my little hobbies is blogging.  I probably don't write nearly as much as I should.  So... for this year's resolution: to write more!  I'm using LiveJournal to host a free-write blog, called Dulcet Tones where whatever pops into my mind will leak onto the page.  I named it Dulcet Tones to go along with the title of this page.  Feel free to read and leave comments.  I wouldn't mind hearing what you've got to say!  Just keep checking back so often to see what's going on in my little world.  (...such as it is...)  I love going here to express myself, so feel free to sign up for a free account on there!

As I mentioned in my "About Me" section, I really enjoy the Japanese Oshare Kei band, An Cafe (aka
Antic Cafe).  Their style can be called "harajuku."  They dress in a way that reflects their music, which can be described as a mixture of pop and rock that's highly energizing and dancable.  I love listening to their beats and reading the translations to their songs.  I highly recommend this band.  Miku's vocals sound wonderful with Teruki's drumming, Kanon's bass-playing, Bou & Takuya's guitar-playing, and Yuki's keyboarding skills.  Click on the first picture (4 members, featuring former guitarist, Bou) to reach their official website (it's in Japanese, by the way...).  For us non-Japanese speakers/readers, go to their Myspace page by clicking on the second photo (5 members, with new members Takuya and Yuki).  On their Myspace page, you can find clips of "Ryuusei Rocket," "Kakusei Heroism ~the HERO without a NAME," "Snow Scene," and "Smile Ichiban ii Onna."
