Hey! My name is Lacey Hansen, and I have lived in Valdosta, Georgia all of my life.  I am very close to my parents, John and Laura, and my little sister, Mary Beth.  I am currently a freshman at the Valdosta State University majoring in biology.  Presently, my goal is to graduate from VSU, go to dental school, and eventually become an oral surgeon.  In addition to going to school, I work at the Valdosta Country Club Tennis Shop and baby sit.  I love playing tennis and playing poker.  My friends and family are my life, and I spend all of my spare time with them!

The Freshman Year Experience Program

This is our FYE class being crazy as usual.

Your freshman year experience at Valdosta State University is critical in laying the groundwork for a successful academic and professional career. Employers view a well rounded successful academic career as evidence that students can be equally successful and productive in their chosen fields. Success begins by mastering the three principal tasks of the first year student:

  • Academic Skills Development
  • Adjusting to College Life
  • Developing Academic & Career Goals

VSU’s Freshman Year Experience (FYE) is an outstanding student development program that assists first-year students in accomplishing these tasks.  The program is designed primarily for students who have not yet decided on an academic major.

My experience so far in FYE has been great! I was not involved last semester, but I heard a lot of good things about it from my friends. Dr. Tillman was extremely helpful with enrolling in classes, and the classes are fun and interesting.  I enjoy having 3 of my classes with the same people, because we are able to build  strong friendships and really get to know each other.  I would definitely encourage other freshmen to get involved in this program.
