Procedures:
Step One:
Introduction
Have a small group of students go to a computer. Explain to
students that you are going to use the computer to read an
Mini-Research eBook
about multiple word meanings and
how they fit into sentences.
List 2 or more
questions that introduce students
to your Mini-Research eBook that will establish a
connection to students' prior knowledge by asking them:
1. "Have
you ever seen a word in a sentence that could mean something else, but
is spelled the same way?"
2. "Can you give me a few examples of
words that have multiple meaning"?
Today we are going
to read an eBook
on the Internet.
I have made a special Mini-Research eBook on the Internet for your
class. (During discussion have students turn around away from the
computer to interact.)
Estimated Time for Step One:
5 minutes
Step Two
Teaching the Primary Learning Outcomes:
(Students will sit at the computer where they can control the mouse
and computer.) (Explain to students the process of the
lesson.) We are going to read my Mini-Research eBook and visit
several websites.
Check for understanding
Students with teacher assistance will read the Mini-Research eBook,
explore, and
discuss
the information in the four linking websites that go with the
Mini-Research eBook. Ask
students guiding
questions about the important concepts in the Mini-Research eBook and
the linking
websites. List four or more questions from each of your
linking websites that will guide your students to gain information for
your PLO.
1. When you look at page 1
and see the picture of a ring on a finger and a cell phone, what do you
think the multiple meaning word for those two pictures are and why?
2. Can you pick a
word, that has mulitple meaning, and type it on the computer screen
using it twice in two different ways?
Can you tell the difference between using the
word as a noun or verb?
3. Lets look at the first
paragraph together and see if we can find the words with multiple
meaning, How many words did you find? What other meanings do you think
the word's have?
4. Can you tell me where you see
multiple meaning words? Do you see any in the classroom on the walls
right now or on a book?
Practice and feedback related to the
PLO
Read the Mini-Research eBook project to students. Explain to
students that
they
are going to help a detective using clues to solve a
mystery, we need to unscramble words and pictures to help him find the
next clue!
Tell
the
students that the information that they will need to complete
their Mini-Research eBook project is listed and connected in
the Mini-Research eBook
activity. Review the
information in the linked website in
the Mini-Research eBook activity with the students to emphasize
interesting and important information students will need to complete

Student went through activity and was able to answer all questions that were asked correctly. When student used or clicked on games and activities, he got all the answers correct. When we did the learning activity at the end, he was able to put all of the pictures with the right sentences, with 100% accuracy. You could tell that he enjoyed the activity and learning more about multiple meaning words. |

Student went through the activity, it took a little more time, but she recognized with help multiple meaning words, but when shown a small paragraph with multiple meaning words in it the student needed help in picking the words out of the paragraph. She did well on clicking on links, and completed the activity on her own. Later we did a whole group activity, and I sat with her to help her better learn homophones. |
1.
Comment
on your
teaching of how your Mini-Research eBook Lesson created
learning
experiences and activities that implemented the use a variety of
resources and
technologies.
a.
I feel
that the lesson
went well over all, I tried to use good interactive links from
websites. I used
the computer, educational links, a camera to incorporate pictures.
During the
lesson we looked at a previous work sheet about multiple meaning words.
I also
had a worksheet that had sentences on it and handmade drawn pictures
for the
students to cut out and color if they wanted.
2.
State
evidence to show
that your students gained knowledge during your Mini-Research eBook
Lesson.
a.
I could
tell that the
students gained knowledge during this lesson because at the end of the
lesson
they cut out two sentences each containing the same word and had to
match the
right meaning of the word with the right picture. One
student did this very well without any
teacher guidance, and the other needed some teacher guidance, but was
able to
complete the rest of the sheet, after one was modeled for her.
3.
Give at
least one
suggestion that would lead to improving your teaching practices and
student
achievement.
