Technology Integrated Lesson
Annotation
The "How We Go" lesson could be used with children in kindergarten
through third grade. This lesson is designed for kindergarten level
students. The students will begin with a hands-on technology research
activity. The students will research the topic of dinosaurs
through connecting Internet links on the topic page that I developed for
my field class students. This is a cross-curricular lesson integrating
science, language arts, technology, and art.
Primary Learning Outcome:
With teacher guidance students will be able to research the Internet
and use the computer to find information for the writing and drawing scenario

Procedures:
Step One
Introduce students to topic by asking them: "Have you ever studied
or talked about transportation?" "Can you tell me something about
transportation?" Today we are going to learn about transportation
by visiting websites on the Internet. I have made a special page
for your class about transportation. (During the introduction the teacher

Discuss the special information in each website with students. (Will
save
"transportation" website to use in Step Four below.)
Estimated time:
15 minutes
Step Three
Read scenario to students. Tell them they are going to decide
what pretend vacation the class is going to go on. Discuss
what types of transportation are needed for different types of trips.Tell
the students that the information that they will need to create
a vacation and draw a picture of the class on their trip is linked
in the scenario.

"Class Vacation"
Scenario Activity
| Mrs. Keen's class is going on a pretend vacation. It is up to you to decide where we are going to go on our vacation. Is it far away or is it close by? Tell me about where you are wanting to go on our class vacation. Let's go to this website about transportation to help pick the kinds of transportation we will take on our vacation. Now, let's draw a picture of our class going on our pretend class vacation. |
Step Four

Student will be assessed through the use of the computer with teacher
guidance to find information for the scenario activity.
Satisfactory: Student is able to use the computer with teacher
guidance to find information for the scenario activity.
Unsatisfactory: Student is not able to use the computer with
teacher guidance to find information for the scenario activity.
Student will be assessed through the use of technology for writing.
Satisfactory: Student is able to write or dictate information
for scenario activity that was obtained while exploring the Internet.
Unsatisfactory: Student is not able to write or dictate information
for scenario activity that was obtained while exploring the Internet.
Accommodation:
My special needs student is speech and language impared. He does
not put beginnings or endings on words unless he is made to by
either his regular teacher or speech teacher. He goes to speech
class and does really well while he is in the speech room setting.
This
child does preform at grade level and is average among the rest of
his peers. When I work with this student, I need to make sure that
I
say my words clearly. When this student is speaking to me in
a group setting I need to stive to understand the words that he is saying
and then attempt to correct the words he mispronounces, but not to
the point that he is being singled out or it takes away from other
students.
Here is a web site that will help accomidate teachers who have speech and language impared students in their classrooms.
Reflections:
1.Describe and give examples of how the students
were engaged in learning and responded during your lesson. Jordan
and Cole were really involved in this lesson. They wanted to keep
looking at the sites on the web page. If time had allowed, I would
have let them look at the sites more. They thought all the sites
were really neat. They enjoyed doing the scenario activity.
The coloring I believe was their favorite part.
2. Describe and give examples of how the students achieved the assessment of your lesson. Give the achievement level (satisfactory or unsatisfactory) for each assessment for each of your students. Jordan and Cole both gave me very detailed descriptions about what their pictures were. Both stayed on task when doing the activity. Both listened closely while we were going over the web page that I made for the class. Both Jordan and Cole get satisfactory for the lesson.
3. Describe what you would change or
do different if you taught this lesson again. If
I could change anything about my lesson, I would have one computer per
student. The space that I was working in didn't allow for that.
I also would liked to have allowed the children to do more searching on
the web page themselves. But, the time and space didn't allow for
that.
