Valdosta State UniversityHi everyone my name is Lauren Williams, and thank you for visiting this site. Just to let you know a little bit about me, I am currently a sophomore at Valdosta State University majoring in Biology with a minor in Chemistry. I am from Lithonia, Georgia by way of Decatur, Georgia. My goals right now are to graduate with honors from college and head straight to medical school. While in medical school I plan to specialize either in sports medicine or pediatric orthopedics. Valdosta State University is a pretty good school when dealing with the medical field, so I am glad that I decided to come here. However, I am not sure why I decided to come Valdosta, but I am satisfied that I was led to do so. Besides having an interest in medicine, I also have a great interest in interior design. I decided to forego medicine and do interior design on the side as a hobby. Who knows, maybe in the future when I decide to retire from medicine then I will be a full time interior designer. Interior design is one thing that makes me happy but the other is working with children and teenagers. I feel like so many of our youth just need someone to talk to, someone to hug them and tell them that they love them and care for them. When children are not getting the love and affection they need at home then they look for other sources to feel that void, and often times they look to the wrong things. I love the feeling of making a difference in a young person's life and just to see that turnaround in behavior, when they have been given what they need, makes me happy. -
Honors ProgramThe Honors Program here at VSU allows students to have a learning experience in an intimate setting with teachers and students. In these intimate settings we also learn different ways of communication. For example in my Honors Seminar class we did an exercise where we all went outside and had to place ourselves in alphabetical order by our last names. We did this while we were blindfolded and we also could not talk. Students were drawing the letters of their last name in other people's hands, so that they could estimate where they needed to be. I value the experience and the teaching that I receive through the Honors Program. The Honors Program has taught me to expect more out of myself, especially if I want to call myself an Honors Student. I have also learned to set myself apart from the rest, by doing different things, being involved in different things, and even taking different courses that represent me and what I want to do in the future.
