Hello!  My name is Leigh Ann Finch. I am twenty-three years old,
and I am originally
from
Statesboro, GA.  I grew up in this small town as an only child.  Statesboro
is the home of
Georgia Southern University, which I attended for two years.
I have recently lived in Valdosta, Georgia for almost two years and attend
Valdosta State University as a
Special Education and Early Childhood Interrelated
major. I love Valdosta and hope
to live and teach here one day.  This city is where I
met the best
boyfriend and roommate in the world!  My roommate's name is
Hillary, and my boyfriend is Jeremy.

When I'm not in school, you can usually find me at my job.  I work in the Belk
department store at the
Clinique counter.  I enjoy my job and get to meet a lot of
new people there.
(I get a lot of free
stuff, too!)
Another favorite place of mine is my church, Northside Baptist.  I have not been
there for long, but
NSB is a very warm and welcoming place.  There are a lot of
good people there.

School and my job take up a lot of time, but when I'm not working I love spending
time with my
two Boston Terrier puppies, Emma and Lucy.

  image Why Teach? image

I have wanted to be a teacher since I was a little girl.  I always
liked helping my teachers run errands and volunteered to help
other students, too.  I have tutored since high school, and I
enjoy helping others learn.  It is a very exciting feeling to see
another person understand a concept because of your help.  The
whole process of learning is very interesting to me.  I want to be
the type of teacher that boosts children's' self esteem and
encourages them to be excited about learning.  Education is the key
to an individual's future, and I want my students and myself to be
lifelong learners.

There is no particular person in my life that has inspired me to
teach.  All of my teachers have each had something that sets them
apart as a good teacher, so it's hard to pick one person.  The main
thing that inspires me is the motivation to help others.  Although I
wanted to be a teacher as a child, when I got to college I tried out
many different majors.  I was so confused!  I kept coming back to
education, because it provides the most opportunity to have
one-on-one interaction with another.  I also met my boyfriend,
Jeremy, in the midst of my search for a career, and he just so
happened to be a second grade teacher! Through his experiences,
I noticed the need for teachers with  backgrounds in special needs.
I really felt drawn to these types of kids.  They need positive people
in their lives that are willing to work hard to get them the education
they deserve.
