About Reading

Ms. Yarbrough co-teaches 8^th grade READING. A co-teaching environment places two teachers in the classroom as extra support for students who may struggle with the subject area. Co-teachers use a variety of resources and strategies to make learning fun and more manageable for all students. One benefit of having two teachers in the classroom is that students can have individual or small group instruction as needed from each teacher. Another benefit is that co-teachers can actually team teach and present material and activities together so that students can see a variety of teaching strategies and accommodations that better help them to learn and retain the information.

Ms. Yarbrough's reading class will explore literary text (fiction) as well as informational text (non-fiction). CA Gray follows the Georgia Performance Standards, as mapped out by the Georgia Department of Education. Students will learn to indentify characterization, setting, plot elements, author's purpose, and other standards of reading. Since reading and language arts are grouped as one subject area for middle and high schools, the 8^th grade reading standards are grouped with language arts on the following site. These standards are also posted in the classroom so that students are aware of the expectations for the class.

About CA Gray Jr High

2009-2010 is the first school year for our new CA Gray Jr. High School. Previously, Gray was a middle school that served 6^th-8^th grades. Under the new school configurations, Gray Jr. High serves all 8^th and 9^th grade students in Colquitt County. CA Gray Jr. High is located at 812 11th Ave. N.W. in Moultrie, Georgia.

The city of Moultrie is known as the “City of Southern Living”. Moultrie, population 15,000, is situated in the heart of Colquitt County. The county covers 552 square miles. The temperature ranges from an average of 55 degrees in January to an average of 82 degrees in July. The average yearly rainfall is 52 inches, snowfall is rare. About Ms. Yarbrough

Ms. Yarbrough is a native of Colquitt County and graduated from Colquitt County High School is 1995. She attended Valdosta State University from 1998-2000, where she earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree. Ms. Yarbrough’s favorite hobby is reading, and she is passionate about getting young people to read. Ms. Yarbrough also enjoys traveling and visiting art museums.
