About Me

My name is Kim Stewart.  I was born in Valdosta, Georgia on August 12, 1975 to David and Becky Sims.  Six years later, my parents brought home my sister, Amanda.  In 1994, I graduated from Lowndes High school and started classes at Valdosta Technical College where in 1998 I received a diploma in pharmacy technology.  I married my high school sweetheart, Bryan Stewart, on October 19, 1996.  On July 31, 2000 we were blessed with a little girl we named Abbie Gail. She is the light of our lives.  This year she started the state funded four-year-old preschool program at Happy Time Preschool.  Lucky for us, she enjoys going to school everyday.

Why I Want to be a Teacher

My daughter is the reason I am going to become a teacher.  After she was born, I wanted to be a good example for her.  I also wanted to provide her with a better life.  I feel that teaching will give me the opportunity to spend more time with her and it will allow me to make a difference in a child's life.
When it comes to school, I understand a child's feelings of frustration and anxiety, which is the way I sometimes felt in school, and I want to be there to support and encourage them.  I know that all children are different and that all children are special.  Children learn in their own way and they need to have positive reinforcement to let them know you care and that you want them to succeed.

The Person who Influenced Me to Become a Teacher

When I was in elementary school, I had to repeat the second grade.  I was embarrassed, the next year, leaving class to receive "special help" in English and math.  After that experience, I felt as if teachers did not expect much of me.  I was never challenged in my studies, until I reached the fifth grade.  My teacher was Mrs. Zipperer and she made me feel alive at school again.  She was stern but caring.  I feel that I advanced educationally the most that year than any of my previous years at school.  I often wonder how the rest of my school life would have been, if she had not taken the extra effort to help me.  She has taught me to believe in all of my students and to teach my students to believe in themselves.

I enjoy watching decorating shows on HGTV.  My favorite show is Devine Design with Candice Olson.

Every time I log onto the Net, I always visit EBay.  A couple of the things I like to look at is different
china patterns and heirloom dresses for my little girl.

When I am killing time in town, I always do so at TJ Maxx.  They always have the best deals on
                      clothes and housewears.

My daughter and I enjoy going to Wild Adventures.  We usually go in the afternoons when the
crowds thin out and it is a little cooler.

I decorate wedding and birthday cakes as a side job.  Using Wilton cake pans, I can make cakes into
character shapes such as Dora the Explorer or Mickey Mouse.
