How to Find a Theme in a Literary Work
study

The best way to find a theme in a literary work is to look for the repeated thoughts of characters, the feelings of characters, what characters seem to learn throughout the story, and the actions or events in the story.  What you have identified as a theme must occur frequently throughout the text and have a significant impact on the plat of the story in order to be considered as a theme.
