| The
Toy Factory! |
| Real-World
Activity: You have recently learned how to add and subtract two digit
numbers without regrouping. Today I am
going to give you the opportunity to show me how well you can add
and subtract two digit numbers. We are going to the toy factory and I
need your help. I have a list of toys that I need to obtain from the
toy factory. You are going to help me get the toys I need. There are
two seperate bags. One bag contains the items I have to get from the
toy factory. The second bag has the number of each item I need. If you
need help Skipper
Math will show you both adding and subtracting two-digit numbers.
Good Luck! |
| Lesson
1 Directions: This activity will be an individual effort. 1. You will draw one item out of the first bag. This will tell you which toy I would like for you to help me obtain. 2. Then you will draw two, two-digit numbers from a second bag. 3. Then you take the number two numbers and the toy choosen from the bags, and create a word story that explains how you are going to obtain the item you selcted. 5. After you finish writing out your word story I want you to set up a problem that shows me how you added the two numbers together. 6. Once you have set up your problem, I want you to draw either a graphic organizer or a model to show how you added the numbers and obtained your answer. |
| Lesson 2 Directions: This time the students will be doing subtraction of two-digit numbers. You will only draw one numbers because I have too many toys and I need to give some away. I have 39 of each kind of toy. I want you to subtract the number you draw from the total amount of toys I have and give me the difference. 1.You will draw one item out of the first bag. 2.You will then draw from the second bag, but only draw one, two-digit number this time. 3.First you will write out a word story. 5.Then the students will draw a subtraction probem using the number given to them and the number they drew from the bad. Once they are done writing the problem they will illustrate it with a model of their word story. |
