Energy Drinks

Ever heard of G-Push, Red Bull, Mad River, Sobe Power, and Red Devil?  If so then you have heard the hype about energy drinks.  Ever company in America has some kind of energy drink.  This article is about energy drinks and whether or not they help or harm you.  It tells you what is put in them and how much of the ingredients there are in them.

Athletes are reminded to consume adequate fluids and fuel to minimize early fatigue and to maximize performance and recovery.  Athletes often complain about energy drain and fatigue.  Athletes are drawn to the concept of an energy drink, which is fluid and energy together in one bottle.  Athletes need adequate rest, frequent meals and snacks, and optimal carbohydrate consumption to feel energized.

Energy drinks contain carbohydrates and caffeine as their principal ingredients, but may contain many other ingredients as well.  Carbohydrates in energy drinks have a concentration of at least 18g/8oz and usually more than 25g/oz.  This high amount of carbohydrates will slow the rate at which fluid is absorbed in the body and will impede rehydration during exercise.  Energy drinks should not be ingested soon before of during exercise because they impede the rate fluid is ingested in body.

Caffeine is added to energy drinks at a rate of 6mg/kg body weight.  It has been proven that large doses of caffeine can put athletes at risk for failing a doping test for caffeine.  Some of the other ingredients added to energy drinks are herbs, pyruvate, protein, creatine, caintine, medium-chain triglycerides, oxygen and hornet’s saliva.  Athletes should read up on energy drinks before they start drinking them to see if they are really helping them enhance their performance or if they are really harming them.

I believe that this article was very informative because it told you what are in the energy drinks and whether they are really helping you or not.  The article was very appealing to me because I drink Sobe Power and now I know what is really in the drink.  The article is very educational for athletes today who drink energy drinks as a way to enhance performance.

Energy drinks will always be appealing to athletes of today as long as they think they are enhancing their performance.  Energy drinks should not be substituted for the main things you need like rest, fueling, training and timing.  Every athletes should read this article is they are drinking energy drinks where they can find out what exactly they are putting in the body and how much of it.  Everyone should research the things they eat and drink to see if they are really doing what the food or drink is supposed to do or if it is just a ploy to get you to try their product.
