Learning outcome: A. Students will be able
to say the long and short sound of the vowels.
Hello! My name is Spoiled Rotten. I am so
happy that you
have come to see me
today.
I want to take you on an
adventure so that I can
teach you about long and short vowels.
I am just waking up
from my
nap. If you will say "A-E-I-O-U,"
I will rise and we can get
started on our way.
"A-E-I-O-U."
Good
morning to you too. Are you ready to learn about the
vowels? Well, vowels are kind of special. They are spoiled
rotten, just like me. They are so special that they can say two
sounds. The first sound
that "A-E-I-O-U" says is called their long sound. This is the
easiest sound because the vowel says its
name. Let's begin with the letter a.
"A"
A says its
name: "A" as in angel.
"E"
E says its
name: "E" as in east.
"I"
I says its name: "I" as in ice.
"O"
O says its name: "O" as in oval.
"U"
U says its name: "U" as in unicorn.
We are
going to learn about the vowels' other sounds. Vowels can say a
sound that is
called their short sound. Come along with me to learn about the
short vowel sounds!
"A"
A says "ah" as in
apple.
"E" E
says "eh" as in envelope.
"I" I
says "ih" as in infant.
"O"
O
says "o" as in ostrich.
"U"
U
says "uh" as in umbrella.
Thank you for letting me
teach you all about
the vowel sounds. I do hope that you will
come to visit me again. Bye!
