Welcome to my Mommy's Hub Page!

Something About Me
My name is Joy and welcome to my hub page. I am a 20 year old Early Childhood Major at Valdosta State University. I have a 3 year old daughter named Skye who keeps me motivated to better myself and pursue my goals (that's her at the top of the page!). She is probably the best thing that has happened to me. It is funny how children have a way of showing and teaching you so much about yourself. I am more defined now then ever! One important thing that I have learned about myself is that I am determined and driven; driven to prove people wrong and determined to do it right. I was a teenage mother and still graduated valedictorian of my high school. While in college, I maintain a 4.0 GPA, for myself and to show others that they don't know much about what I am capable of doing.  I am not originally from Georgia and have only been here two years. I do enjoy living here as I have accomplished more here then anywhere else. Some of my favorite things to do in my spare time are read and be with close friends. I really don't have any sole passions, except education, and I am willing to try a number of things. I have drawn at times, played instruments at times, danced at times, you name it I have done it.  I am told to have a crazy sense of humor and am sure to keep everyone entertained.  Becoming a mother is the best thing that ever happened to me, even though it seemed hard at first, seeing my daughter grow everyday makes me feel accomplished. She has given me so much drive and determination. There were times before Skye when I felt as if I didn't have a purpose, but now I know that I am a mother and everyday and everything that I do is meaningful to her.

Why I Want to Become an Educator
Every since I could remember I wanted to be an educator. When I was a little girl my sister and I would play school over the summer. When I was in first grade I wanted to be a first grade teacher, in second a second, in college a professor. No matter what, I knew I wanted to be responsible for shaping and preparing the next generation. Teaching and learning is a job that we all do everyday of our lives, I just feel honored to be a part of it. Before my daughter, I wanted to be a teacher and since my daughter I know for sure that this is what I want to do for the rest of my life. Even if I never become a teacher, I will be everyday in the eyes of my daughter so I might as well pursue it.

What is my Inspiration?
First and foremost, Skye is my inspiration. She is my motivation to continue in the education field. Her energy and potential inspire me and keep me interested in children and the way they take in the world. Teachers that have taught me have always inspired me. Teachers who recognize the importance of education and the diversity in their students still inspire me. Those are the teachers that I remember and I want to be held in that light in a child's eyes one day.  I've always looked up to them and admired them and I want to be one of those people.

 WEBSITES OF INTEREST

My favorite search engine and starting point for everything!! What can't you find on Yahoo!

Babycenter. com has the best information on children. Anything and everything that you need to know is embodied in this website. It's gotten me through 3 years of motherhood and I  still refer to it today. Babycenter has message boards and  e-mail postings with up to date and relevant information pertaining to anything and everything.

This is the best site for children's clothes and accessories.  I love it and it is so trendy! It always has the best toys and newest items for children of all ages.

Job posting for teaching positions all over Georgia and there are plenty of them in this database. It also contains information on certifications and changing standards. Teach Georgia reminds me that teachers are needed, jobs are available and inspires me to finish so I can join that workforce.

Newsday is the newspaper that I grew up on. It is the newspaper that documents all the things that  are going on in my hometown of Long Island, New York. I  go to this website everyday since I don't get any New York news channels just to stay abreast on what is going on. I find that this website has some of the best  national news as well.

I love Amazon. com. It is the best place to buy electronics and especially books. I love the fact that they know sell used children's book for pennies in some instances. I have used this site since high school to buy certain supplies and I still use it today. In my opinion, amazon has the best editorial and customer reviews around about books and other items they sell.  They also provide the best features, such as being able to read an excerpt or explore the inside of the  book before you purchase it.

I just recently stumbled across this site for one of my ECED classes and I absolutely love it. It has all kinds of ideas for parents and teachers. I have already used some of the ideas for Skye to help her get interested in books. I love the ideas and this site. The site also includes resources as well as links to other sites that are as fabulous as this one. If you are a parent or an ECED student you will probably bookmark this site. It really does help.

I love quotes. I absolutely love them. Every time I find one that I just can't live without I write it down in a book. My book has about 50 quotes in it and it is still growing. It is something about quotes that I just admire. To have something that someone else said, at a completely different time in their life be relevant to your life and experience, is amazing. You would be surprised at the kind of wisdom that a quote can offer. This is one of the websites that I look at because they put new quotes on it everyday.
