The
Three Billy Goats
Gruff
Paul Galdone was born in Budapest,
Hungary in 1914. Paul emigrated to the United States in 1928. He
studied at the Art Student League and the New York School of Industrial
Design after he came to the United States. After he finished his
schooling, Mr. Galdone worked in the art department of a major
publishing house. In the art department, he was introduced to the
process of bookmaking. Mr. Galdone illustrated almost three hundred
books, many of which he himself wrote or retold. Paul Galdone died in
1986. Today Paul remembered for his contemporary style, bright
down-to-earth humor, and action-filled illustrations, which will
continue to delight for generations to come.
His version of the story "The Three Billy Goats Gruff" is very similar
to the many other versions being published today. In this classic
childrens fairy tale, there are three strong willed goats. These three
goats want to go across a bridge to a greener pasture. Under the bridge
lived a mean, nasty troll who guarded his bridge and did not let anyone
past over . One day the goats try to pass over the bridge.

Ella
Enchanted
Gail
Carson Levine grew up in New York City and
has been writing al her life. Her first book for children, Ella Enchanted, was a 1998
Newberry Honor Book. Gail and her husband David live in a
two-hundred-year-old farmhouse in the Hudson River Valley. Ella Enchanted is a fourth
to fifth grade level chapter book version of the classic fairy tale Cinderella. One
estimate states that world wide there are more than 1,000 versions of
the Cinderella story. In the story Ella is given the gift of
obedience by a fairy. Ella soon realizes that this gift is truly
a curse to her, for how can Ella truly be herself if someone tells her
to cut off her fingers and she would have to obey. She will not
accept the fate that the fairy has cast to her so Ella takes a quest to
brake the curse and find out the person she truly is.

that Ella and Cinderella will have in common?

Sleeping
Beauty is a story of a beautiful princess. The king and queen
wanted so much to have a child. When they finally had a little
baby girl, they invited seven fairies to her party.
Each fairy gave the princess a gift, such as beauty, grace, and
charm. The king forgot to invite an old fairy who hasn't been
seen in several years. The old fairy showed up at the party and
was very angry. She cast a spell on the princess to fall asleep
on her fifteenth birthday for one hundred years. Even after the
one hundred years of sleep she can only be awakened by a handsome
prince.

going to happen with the princess?
