My name is
Jessica Irene Soady. I was born in Hamilton, Ontario,
Canada and have a dual citizenship with the United States. I have
lived here half of my life and find it a quaint, easygoing town.
One thing that has influenced me to be a teacher is my love of
horses. Let me explain. During my first year at VSU i took
a class in horseback riding. The place I rode was called Jacob's
ladder. At Jacob's Ladder the owner has set up a theraputic
horseback riding facility. I had talked to her a couple times
about what she does there and I found it very interesting. Her
facility helps special needs children learn to communicate, and you get
to work with horses. In my teaching I hope to develop goods and
appropriate lines of communication with each student: every child can
learn. I also hope to follow through with my dreams to own my
very own ranch one day and work with children.
Why
I want to be a teacher
I got into the education major probably because my
mother is a professor and she has been all my life. I wanted to
be a teacher for other reasons as well. I love kids, expecially
when they are young. I believe that with a good role
model/teacher, a student can be encouraged to achieve regardless
of their background. I am a multi-cultural person and believe hat
attitude can be brought to my classroom as a positive outlook on
difference.

Who inspired me to be
a teacher
There are a few people
who were such great teachers
and influences in my life that they opened my mind to being a
teacher. Some have inspired me while I have been here at
VSU. Professors
Rebecca Galeano (Spanish/ESOL) and Bobbie Warren (English) are the two
that had the most impact. Both are exceptional teachers who care
for their
students. They bring exciting stories and occurrences from their lives
into their teaching. i am honored to be in the presence of such
great people who I know are just as caring outside the classroom as
they are while teaching. If I could only strive to be half as
terriffic as they are, i would be satisified.
