PLO- Students will identify some
individual lettes of the alphabet
Assessed Standards
Bright From the Start
Language Development
Grade: Pre-K
Standard

develop age-appropriate strategies that will assist in reading
Materials and Equipment:
1. Have an example of Mini-Research eBook activity to show students
2. Paper for drawing
3. Crayons and/or color markers
4. Pencil & paper (to make notes for lesson plan assessment and
reflections)
5. Modification of a lesson developed by Dr. Diane L. Judd
Technology Connection:
Technologies that will be used in this lesson include:
Procedures:
Step One: Introduction
Have a small group of students go to a computer. Explain to
students that you are going to use the computer to read an
Mini-Research eBook about the letters Tt and Pp. List 2 or more
questions that introduce students to your Mini-Research eBook that will
establish a connection to students' prior knowledge by asking them:
1. "Do you remember what the letter Tt
and Pp look like?"
2. " Can you name something that we saw
in the online lesson that begins with the letter Tt?"
3. "Can you remember something that we say
in the online lesson that begins with the letter Pp?"
Today we are going to read an eBook on the Internet. I have made a special
Mini-Research eBook on the Internet for your class. (During
discussion have students turn around away from the computer to
interact.)
Estimated Time for Step One:
5 minutes
Step Two Teaching the
Primary Learning Outcomes:
(Students will sit at the computer where they can control the mouse and
computer.) (Explain to students the process of the lesson.)
We are going to read my Mini-Research eBook and visit several websites.
Check for understanding
Students with teacher assistance will read the Mini-Research eBook,
explore, and discuss the information in the four linking websites that
go with the Mini-Research eBook. Ask students guiding questions
about the important concepts in the Mini-Research eBook and the linking
websites. List four or more questions from each of your
linking websites that will guide your students to gain information for
your PLO.
1. Do you remember what letters
we have been learning?
2. Do you need some help remember what
the letters Tt and Pp look like; if so, let's visit the link listed
from Starfall.com?
3. Can you fine the letters Tt and Pp
in the bag on your desk and take them out for me?
4. Can you draw Tony's train on your construction paper?
5. Once you have found the letters Tt and Pp, will you glue them
on your paper around or on the train?
Practice and feedback related to the
PLO
Read the Mini-Research eBook project to students. Explain to
students that they are going to help Tony the Tiger find the letters
Tt and Pp in a bag, and glue them to a train they draw. This will
keep Tony's train traveling through Alphabet Land. Tell
the students that the information that they will need to complete
their Mini-Research eBook project is listed and connected in
the Mini-Research eBook activity. Review the information in the
linked website in the Mini-Research eBook activity with the students to
emphasize interesting and important information students will need to
complete mission project.

[Students will write (or dictate to teacher) information to be included in their
Mini-Research eBook project. While students are completing
Mini-Research eBook project, teacher will observe students and give
assistance when needed.]
Step Three
Closure:
Have students discuss their Mini-Research eBook activity and
information they found on the Internet. Tell students that your
Mini-Research eBook Website is on the Internet and they can visit the
website at school or home. Explain to students that you are going
to put their pictures and information on the Internet and they will be
able to share their mission projects with their friends and
family. (If possible teacher should take brief notes during the
lesson and concluding discussions to be added later to the assessment
and reflections in lesson plan.)
Estimated Time for Step Three:
5 minutes
Accommodation:
This will be turned in as an in-class activity.
Comments & Reflections:

Descriptions of Students' Evidence that
Illustrate the Achieved Performance Level of the PLO (* To receive full credit description must include minimum of two sentences and a detailed example of the students' evidence.) |

Student #1 demonstarted a great
amount of knowledge throughout the lesson. Originally she was
having difficulties identifying letters, but with the resources and
hands-on activities she was able to obtain the knowledge needed to
identify the letters "Tt" and "Pp." She correctly identified and
glued them to her paper during the activity. |

Student #2 at first was having
trouble distinguishing the letters from each other, but with my
assistance and Student #1's assistance, he was able to obtain the
knowledge needed to identify each letter by the end of the
lesson. During the activity, he correctly identified the letters
"Tt" and "Pp" and glued them to his paper. |
1.
Comment on your teaching of how your Mini-Research eBook
Lesson created learning experiences and activities that implemented the
use a variety of resources and technologies.
Because I had already
taught this lesson once, I knew what to expect out of the
students. To my surprise the students reacted differnetly than
the students in lesson one. The students I taught my
Mini-Research eBook Lesson 2 on were struggling with identifying
letters; therefore, by the end of the lesson I could see a tremendous
amount of improvement. Student #1 is younger than most, and his
attention span is shorter than some of the other students. He
reacted very well to being taught by the teacher (me) and by the
computer. Both students were anxious to see what each resource
was going to involve.
2. State evidence to show that
your students gained knowledge during your Mini-Research eBook Lesson.
The two
students I taught my eBook Lesson 2 to were struggling with identifying
letters, like I stated above, so teaching them in a fun, educational,
hands on way really benefitted each students' learning. When it
was time for the activity, each student was able to identify both
letters. I asked them to draw a train on their paper, and that
was a little difficult for them, but my main concern was that they
would be able to identify the letters "Tt" and "Pp" by the end of the
lesson.
3. Give at least one suggestion that
would lead to improving your teaching practices and student
achievement.
Just as I said on Lesson
Plan 1, having the students face me instead of the computer monitor
would have greatly benefitted them when I was introducing the lesson to
them. Also, they struggled to draw the train on their
paper, so next time I plan to have a train already drawn out for them
that way they will have more time to focus on indentifying the letters.
