Setting Tabs

Creating Tabs - Using the Tabs Dialog Box
- Position cursor at the left margin.
- Select the Format Menu and choose Tabs.
- In the Tab Stop Position, type "location" for the first tab stop.
- Choose the Alignment: Left, Center, Right, Decimal, or Bar.
- Choose a Leader; None, ...., -----, or ______.
- Click the Set button.
- Word creates a tab in the box underneath the Tab Stop Position. The cursor will return to the Tab Stop Position.
- Repeat the process if you need to add additional tabs.
- Click OK or press ENTER to return to the document.
- The ruler will dislay the tab(s). Use the Tab key to move to a tab stop.

Using the Ruler to Set a Tab Stop
- Position cursor at the left margin - a 3.5" Right tab will be set.
- The Ruler should be displayed. If not, select the View Menu and choose Ruler.
- The icon to the far left of the ruler identifies the type of tab stops available.
- Click the icon to locate the Right tab.
- Position the mouse at 3.5" on the ruler and click ONCE.
- The tab will be set.


Removing a Tab Stop
- The tab stop position is displayed on the Ruler. Click and drag down below the ruler (you should see it disappear). When you release the mouse, the tab stop should be gone.
- OR, Select the Format Menu and choose Tabs. Click the tab in the box underneath the Tab Stop Position. Click Clear. Click OK or Press ENTER to return to the document.
