ENGL 2120 - World Literature II:  The Age of Discovery

Prerequisite: ENGL 1102 or 1102H. A study of selected works of literature and their cultural backgrounds from the Middle Ages into the seventeenth century. This course includes introductions to the Medieval and Renaissance frames of mind and puts works such as those by Dante, Chaucer, Machiavelli, Shakespeare, and Milton in the context of modern intellectual issues.

**Please be aware that each ENGL 2120 class is setup by individual professors and may not cover those works mentioned above. 

                   Essay for Exam 4:

1.       Compare the treatment of physical dismemberment and the descent to the underworld in the Popol Vuh and in Sir Gawain and the Green Knight.  What does the loss of an arm/leg mean?  You can also discuss how such differences contribute to narrative tone in these heroic works.  You can also mention any work that discusses dismemberment  - Lope de Vega for instance, Beowulf, etc. to support your essay.
