Technology Connection:
Technologies that will be used in this lesson include:
Procedures:
Step One:
Introduction
Have a small group of students go to a computer. Explain to
students that you are going to use the computer to read a
Mini-Research eBook
about sorting objects by using
one characteristic (shape, size, or color).
List 2 or more
questions that introduce students
to your Mini-Research eBook that will establish a
connection to students' prior knowledge by asking them:
1. "Have you ever sorted your toys by the
same color or because they were all the same size?
2. "Can you tell me some things that you
have seen sorted by color, shape, or size at home or in the classroom?"
Today we are going
to read an eBook
on the Internet.
I have made a special Mini-Research eBook on the Internet for your
class. (During discussion have students turn around away from the
computer to interact.)
Estimated Time for Step One:
5 minutes
Step Two
Teaching the Primary Learning Outcomes:
(Students will sit at the computer where they can control the mouse
and computer.) (Explain to students the process of the
lesson.) We are going to read my Mini-Research eBook and visit
several websites.
Check for understanding
Students with teacher assistance will read the Mini-Research eBook,
explore, and
discuss
the information in the four linking websites that go with the
Mini-Research eBook. Ask
students guiding
questions about the important concepts in the Mini-Research eBook and
the linking
websites. List four or more questions from each of your
linking websites that will guide your students to gain information for
your PLO.
1. On the second page of
the eBook, what characteristic were we using to sort the objects?
2. In the picture
on page 3 of the eBook, what shape were all of the objects in the
sorted group?
3. In the picture on page 4 of
the eBook, the objects were sorted by size. Were all the objects big of
small?
4. On the fourth page of the
eBook, what characteristic were we using to sort the objects?
Practice and feedback related to the
PLO
Read the Mini-Research eBook project to students. Explain to
students that
they
are going to put all the objects
back in order that were messed up during center time by sorting the
objects using one characteristic (color, shape, size).
Tell
the
students that the information that they will need to complete
their Mini-Research eBook project is listed and connected in
the Mini-Research eBook
activity. Review the
information in the linked website in
the Mini-Research eBook activity with the students to emphasize
interesting and important information students will need to complete
mission
project.

Out
of Place: Freeze! Center time is over and it is time to start cleaning
up. But wait, everything is out of order. The markers in the writing
center should be sorted by color. The blocks in the block center should
be sorted by shape. The books in the reading center should be sorted by
size. Can you help me sort all the things back in order? If we work
together, we can get this done!
|
| Lesson 1 Directions: 1. Students will receive a basket of different colored markers. 2. Sort the markers into groups by color. If you need help remembering how to sort objects by color you can refer back to page 2 of the eBook or re-visit the Boople's sorting game. |
[Students will write (or dictate to teacher) information to be included
in
their Mini-Research eBook
project.
While
students are completing Mini-Research eBook project, teacher
will observe students and give assistance when needed.]
Step Three
Closure:
Have students discuss their Mini-Research eBook activity and
information they found on the Internet.
Tell students that your Mini-Research eBook Website is on the Internet
and
they can
visit the website at school or home. Explain to students
that you are going to put their pictures and information
on the Internet and they will be able to share their mission
projects with
their friends and family. (If possible teacher should take
brief
notes during the lesson and concluding discussions to be added
later
to the assessment and reflections in lesson plan.)

observation, oral discussion, and developed product to
evaluate if student: listen
to
information to gain knowledge. (Use information from your PLO at top
of page of this lesson.)

Comment
on your
teaching of how your
Mini-Research eBook
Lesson created learning experiences and activities that
implemented the use a variety of resources and technologies. (*
To receive full credit description must include a minimum of two
sentences and a detailed example.)
Students were able to view the eBook and digital pictures which showed
the different characteristics that objects can be sorted by. Students
were also able to play educational online games to further their
understanding of the subject. The students were able to answer
questions about sorting correctly without additional help. While
playing the online education game, I asked the students to identify
what characteristic Zoe was using to sort the dogs. The students were
able to answer whether she was sorting by color or size correctly.
2. State evidence to show that
your students gained knowledge during your Mini-Research eBook
Lesson. (*
To receive full credit description must include a minimum of two
sentences and a detailed example.)
After the lesson I asked the students what were the three
characteristics that objects could be sorted by. The students were able
to identify the three characteristics correctly. While playing the
online educational games the student was able to identify what the
objects were being sorted by. After the eBook Lesson, the students were
able to correctly sort the items in the Real World Activity. Students
were asked to sort the markers using one of the three characteristics
that they learned. The students were able to identify that the markers
were to be sorted by color and completed the task correctly without
additional help.
3. Give at least one suggestion that would lead to improving your teaching practices and student achievement. (* To receive full credit description must include a minimum of two sentences and a detailed example.)
After teaching and reflecting back this
lesson, I would have distributed my questions more evenly among the
students. I had one student that was eager to answer every question
that the other student did not get a chance to answer as
many.
