Mission Statement on Diversity and Poverty
A 21st Century Perspective

The Department of Early Childhood and Special Education at Valdosta State University
"Seeing the Future and the Promise of Diversity"
The faculty in the Early Childhood and Special Education program are committed to serving students of diverse backgrounds.  Our commitment includes recognizing the presence of a wide range of human qualities and attributes within our student population.  The scope of these qualities includes students' culture ethnicity gender, gender identity, native language, physical and intellectual ability, race religion, sex, sexual orientation and socio economic status

We believe that the importance of equity as a condition or state of fair, inclusive and respectful treatment should be observed by all people with a special regard for the richness that  individual differences brings to shaping our perspective as teachers and learners

The Early Childhood and Special Education programs place priority on education that is based on principles of acceptance and inclusion of all students.  Students should see themselves reflected in the curriculum, in the physical environment, as well as in the broader environment in which diversity is honored and all individuals are respected.
