Procedures:
Step One: Introduction
Have a small group of students go to a computer.  Explain to students that you are going to use the computer to read an Mini-Research eBook about things that stay in the sky and some things return to the earth.  List 2 or more questions that introduce students to your Mini-Research eBook that will establish a connection to students' prior knowledge by asking them:
1. "Have you ever studied or read a book about being honest or loyal?
2. "Can you tell me about some people that you have seen showing the qualities of honesty and loyalty?"
Today we are going to read an eBook on the Internet.  I have made a special Mini-Research eBook on the Internet for your class.  (During discussion have students turn around away from the computer to interact.)

Estimated Time for Step One:
5 minutes

Step Two Teaching the Primary Learning Outcomes:
(Students will sit at the computer where they can control the mouse and computer.)  (Explain to students the process of the lesson.)  We are going to read my Mini-Research eBook and visit several websites.

Check for understanding
Students with teacher assistance will read the Mini-Research eBook, explore, and discuss the information in the four linking websites that go with the Mini-Research eBook.  Ask students guiding questions about the important concepts in the Mini-Research eBook and the linking websites.   List four or more questions from each of your linking websites that will guide your students to gain information for your PLO.
1. Was there ever a time when you were unloyal or unhonest to a member of your family?
2.
What do you think of when you hear of the word "loyal"?
3.  What do you think of when you hear the word "honesty"?
4.  What was your favorite part from the story, Zinny The Zebra?

Practice and feedback related to the PLO
Read the Mini-Research eBook project to students.  Explain to students that they are going to be reporters for their class, and they will draw a picture of their favorite part of the story to show the qualities of loyality and honesty..   Tell the students that the information that they will need to complete their Mini-Research eBook project is listed and connected in the Mini-Research eBook activity.  Review the information in the linked website in the Mini-Research eBook activity with the students to emphasize interesting and important information students will need to complete mission project.

The Wonderful Qualities of Loyalty & Honesty
Real-World Activity:
*Loyalty and honesty are two of the greatest qualities to possess. Think about the mess that Zinny would have gotten herself into if she did not stay loyal and honest to ZeeBee. When you stay true to these qualities, everything eventually works itself out in the end.
*Now is the time to use everything we have learned about being loyal and honest and have some fun! We will be working on two activities where you can explore your creativity!

Lesson 2 Directions:
1. You will draw your favorite part from the story, Marco Polo, where Marco Polo showed how he could be loyal and honest.
2. Underneath your picture, you will write the words "Loyalty and/or Honesty" that your picture shows.
*Watching this video on Marco Polo will remind you of the story.

[Students will write (or dictate to teacher) information to be included in their Mini-Research eBook project.  While students are completing Mini-Research eBook project, teacher will observe students and give assistance when needed.]

Estimated Time for Step Two:
35 minutes

Step Three
Closure:
Have students discuss their Mini-Research eBook activity and information they found on the Internet.  Tell students that your Mini-Research eBook Website is on the Internet and they can visit the website at school or home.  Explain to students that you are going to put their pictures and information on the Internet and they will be able to share their mission projects with their friends and family.  (If possible teacher should take brief notes during the lesson and concluding discussions to be added later to the assessment and reflections in lesson plan.)

Estimated Time for Step Three:
5 minutes

Accommodation:
This will be turned in as an in-class activity.

Descriptions of Students' Evidence that Illustrate the Achieved Performance Level of the PLO
(* To receive full credit description must include minimum of two sentences and a detailed example of the students' evidence.)
1
Level 3
Student 1 was able to retell the story of Marco Polo by illustrating a part from the story that showed the qualities of loyalty and honesty. Student 1 drew a picture of the king giving Marco Polo a treasure box when he was ill and able to die. The king gave this treasure box to Marco Polo because throughout the story he was loyal to him and did not turn his back on him when given the opportunity.
2
Level 3
Student 2 was able to retell the story of Marco Polo by illustrating a part from the story that showed the qualities of loyalty and honesty. Student 2 also drew the picture of the king giving Marco Polo the treasure box. Student 2 stated that he drew this scene from the story because, "Marco Polo never lied to the king so he got a big box of gold and treasures."

1. Comment on your teaching of how your Mini-Research eBook Lesson created learning experiences and activities that implemented the use a variety of resources and technologies.  (* To receive full credit description must include a minimum of two sentences and a detailed example.)

The students enjoyed the story I created for my Mini-Research eBook Lesson. They also enjoyed the Marco Polo video that went with my story. Since the students were getting two stories at once, it heped them grasp the concepts and meanings of the qualities of loyalty and honesty. Student 1 made the comment while the video was loading that she "loves watching videos!" Student 2 agreed with her.

2. State evidence to show that your students gained knowledge during your Mini-Research eBook Lesson.  (* To receive full credit description must include a minimum of two sentences and a detailed example.)

The students gained knowledge from my Mini-Research eBook Lesson because they made comments to me that compared the Marco Polo video clip to the story I made up in my eBook.Student 1 made the comment that, "Marco Polo was loyal just like Zinny was to Zeebee." Student 1 turned around and made this comment to me right after the Marco Polo video clip had finished.

3. Give at least one suggestion that would lead to improving your teaching practices and student achievement.  (* To receive full credit description must include a minimum of two sentences and a detailed example.)

A suggestion for improving my teaching practices in this instance would be to have gotten ear phones for the students. Since only two students were used in this lesson and the rest of the class was engaged in centers, it was hard to hear some of the Marco Polo video clip.
