1. Have an example of Mini-Research eBook activity to show students
2. Paper cut out of brief case that I have supplied
3. Cut outs of rhyming words

Procedures:
Step One: Introduction
Have a small group of students go to a computer.  Explain to students that you are going to use the computer to read an Mini-Research eBook about rhyming and non-rhyming words.  List 2 or more questions that introduce students to your Mini-Research eBook that will establish a connection to students' prior knowledge by asking them:
1. "Does the word cat and mouse rhyme?"
2. "Can you tell me two words that do rhyme?"
Today we are going to read an eBook on the Internet. I have made a special Mini-Research eBook on the Internet for your class.  (During discussion have students turn around away from the computer to interact.)

5 minutes

Step Two Teaching the Primary Learning Outcomes:
(Students will sit at the computer where they can control the mouse and computer.)  (Explain to students the process of the lesson.)  After we read the Mini-Research eBook and visit several websites.

Check for understanding
Students with teacher assistance will read the Mini-Research eBook, explore, and discuss the information in the four linking websites that go with the Mini-Research eBook.  Ask students guiding questions about the important concepts in the Mini-Research eBook and the linking websites.   List four or more questions from each of your linking websites that will guide your students to gain information for your PLO.
1.  Does frog and log rhyme with each other?
2.
  Does bird and fish rhyme?
3.  Can you tell me one other word that rhymes with star and car?
4.  How do you know that mouse and house rhyme?

Practice and feedback related to the PLO
Read the Mini-Research eBook project to students.  Explain to students that they are going to be a detective in their classroom, and they will have to pick out the pictures that rhyme and put them in their briefcase to solve the mystery.   Tell the students that the information that they will need to complete their Mini-Research eBook project is listed and connected in the Mini-Research eBook activity.  Review the information in the linked website in the Mini-Research eBook activity with the students to emphasize interesting and important information students will need to complete mission project.

Rhyme Time Detective
Real-World Activity:  Today, we are going to pretend that we are rhyming detectives.  A dectective is a spy.  They go around looking for things, and figuring things out.  You read a book about a spy just a few days ago.  The dectective is having a hard time figuring out the mystery.  Help him figure out the clues, by finding the rhyming words and gluing/drawing the pictures in your briefcase.  There will be some words that rhyme and others that do not.  If you pick the words that do not rhyme, you will not be able to crack the mystery.  Look carefully!  If you need help distinguishing between rhyming and non-rhyming words, watch the rhyming video, and then help Digby find his way to found by rhyming words.
Lesson 2 Directions:
1.  Get the briefcase that I have provided for you.
2.  I have put some words that rhyme on the table.
3.  Look at the words, and decided which ones rhyme.
4.  After you have selected two words that rhyme, draw pictures for the words in your briefcase.
5.  After you have drawn the pictures, glue the word under it.
6.  If the two words rhyme, and the words match the picture, you have solved the mystery!!!

Closure:
Have students discuss their Mini-Research eBook activity and information they found on the Internet.  Tell students that your Mini-Research eBook Website is on the Internet and they can visit the website at school or home.  Explain to students that you are going to put their pictures and information on the Internet and they will be able to share their mission projects with their friends and family.  (If possible teacher should take brief notes during the lesson and concluding discussions to be added later to the assessment and reflections in lesson plan.)

This student was able to identify all of the rhyming and non-rhyming words.  She really enjoyed the ebook lesson and all of the games.  She already had a very good grasp on the information, so this lesson was a lot of fun to her.  She also really enjoyed the activity and having her own brief case.

This student was able to identify most of the rhyming and non-rhyming words.  He did a very good job with the lesson and really enjoyed the games.  When we did the activity, he loved pretending he was a spy and did a great job of picking out the rhyming words and drawing the pictures above to match.

    I used the computer, a clip from a rhyming song, educational games, and pictures of rhyming words to teach my ebook lesson.  These four things were very useful in keeping the students interest and making them excited about learning.  They loved the games, and this really made them want to learn about rhyming and non-rhyming words.  The activity was set up in a way to make it fun for them as well.  They got to pretend they were a spy and have their own brief case.  They loved this and it made them really focus on getting the rhyming words right because they wanted to solve the mystery.

    These two students did a great job even from the beginning.  They could tell me the definition, and pick out the words that rhyme and the words that did not rhyme.  They may struggle on a few of the words when they had to sound them out theirselves, but they always ended up getting them right.  The games were a lot of fun for them but it also helped them see more examples of rhyming words.  When we got to the activity, they both picked two rhyming words and glued them in their brief case on the first try.

3. Give at least one suggestion that would lead to improving your teaching practices and student achievement.  (* To receive full credit description must include a minimum of two sentences and a detailed example.)

    If I could do one thing to improve my lesson, I would add more games.  They seemed to have a lot of fun with the games and improve each time they played one.  The games kept their interest and made them want to learn.
